Battery Pack Replacement - Arizona

    They have them for $2k with new cells but not installed. They used to install them for $2k but I think they caught on that their batteries are so good they should charge more for them and raised prices. However I think their current price is too high given the Toyota OEM price cuts of late.

    With a fifteen year or more old car, I like the thought of a new OEM battery being one less thing to worry about. Worst case is that it becomes something you can remove and sell if the rest of the car fails. My original battery is still fine after fifteen years and nearly 200k miles. An outlier perhaps but a datapoint nonetheless.

    OK, the dealer (who is about 2 miles from my house) quoted me a pre-tax price of $1950.00. Now I have to see what their labor rate is for installation.

    $1950 is the suggested retail price, all the parts departments should be in that range. I believe Camelback Toyota offers really good pricing on batteries, they have online pricing at $1699. And they will honor that price when you go and get it at the parts counter

    OK, I went with Hybrid2Go and they replaced the battery today.

    Now, the tech suggested replacing the 12vdc battery if it hadn't been done recently, so I checked when it was last replaced. That was in November 2019, so it is about 2.5 years old. I don't remember if that was the second or third time the 12vdc battery had been replaced since we bought the car in August 2004, so the average battery life was either 5 or 7.5 years.

    So, I'm wondering if I should replace it just to be on the safe side or let it go for now. The pro for replacing now is that I'll have both batteries fresh. Any advice either way?

    Have it tested and if it fails testing then replace it. If it tests fine, leave it be but monitor it regularly.
