Headgasket replaced and failed shortly after? Do anything different next time?

    All right update time. The car now has 257k miles on it and I've driven over 4000 miles since the head gasket change and it's running perfect. I'm driving 60 mph on the freeway and trying to hyper-miling it for the most part and getting about 58-60 mpg. Simply amazing mpg! Tires are inflated to 40 lbs. I tried 45 lbs but it was a bit too harsh of a ride as I have lots of bumps in the road where i live. Oil is super clean and not burning any either.

    The EGR and intake was cleaned this time around? Is it still the original piston rings?

    Yes EGR and intake was cleaned out when I did the HG. EGR was 90% blocked and I plan to clean it out every 25k miles. And yes piston rings are original.

    25,000 isn't long enough. I believe I've read between 50-80,000 miles is a safe number.

    I keep thinking this thread should be pinned: a case of multiple head gasket failures, 'till the EGR was dealt with, then all is good (knock on wood...).

    I've bookmarked, anyway.

    Had that happen to me when I bought cheap Chinese head gasket for Prius and then it lasted 10,000 mi
