    Nashville rush hour in a rain storm. I also grabbed a Burger King and they are not fast either. Regardless, Autopilot and FSD didn’t complain.

    Ya know Bob, those posts are pretty much useless. You don't say where you started or where you charged. You don't tell whether you started with a full battery nor whether you had any juice left when you arrived at the destination. Due to poor wording, we can't even tell how many miles you actually drove. The only thing that can be taken from the post was that you really like your car and will put up with a lot of crap to prove to yourself that it's as good as the Prius that that traded in on it.

    On what appears to be the same day (May 5) I drove 501.5 miles and used 6kWh of electricity (29 miles at $0.26 per kWh) and 8.155 gallons of gasoline. The car is a 2017 Prius prime with decent aftermarket tires. I stopped where ever I wanted and drove whenever I wanted. I did not add gasoline to the tank until I reached my destination. Due to a long downhill run into town I had 5% battery left when I arrived at my destination. I had 3 gallons of gas left in the tank at my destination. According to my figures I got 61.4 MPG despite climbing 3 mountain ranges. Started at 345 feet above sea level and ended at 350 feet. Gas was around $4.5 per gallon here in Oregon.

    • 9:10 AM - 100% SOC from home about 1/4 mile West of Mike's Merchandise in Huntsville AL.
    • 9:30 AM - 6 miles, depart from Redstone Federal Credit Union, 3309 S Memorial Pkwy, Huntsville AL.
    • 1:15 PM - 160 miles to 38 West Hogan Lane, Scottsville, KY via Fayetteville TN, Shelbyville, TN, Watermill TN, pee break near Valero KY.
    • 3:30 PM - 205 miles total including 20 minute stop at Senior Center Blink EVSE to add 5 reserve miles, 10 minutes at Burger King in Lebanon TN, and added ~140 miles for $11.21 SuperCharger fees at Thompson Lane, Nashville, then on to step daughter's home in Murfreesboro TN.
    • 7:15 PM - 354 miles total to return home in Huntsville AL
    My interest was in doing a non-SuperCharger, long range, direct route test.

    Happily there are a lot of L2 chargers along the route. So I used the Senior Center Blink station in Lebanon TN to add 5 miles reserve to the 30 miles needed to reach the Thompson Road SuperCharger in Nashville TN.

    I am interested in Tesla travel modes including trading off shorter, slower speed routes versus longer, faster but frequent SuperCharger paths. Just my curiosity about this EV vehicle.

    I have a math model that shows range as a function of speed. I also have SuperCharger curves. By combining these relationships I should be able to predict future trip durations and costs.

    Thread drift is well known. In my case, a Prius Prime helped buy our Tesla and with 'hands on' time for both, I'm in a unique position to compare and contrast:
    • longest distance single fueling stop - Prime
    • biological limits - both are equal
    • lowest cost per mile - Tesla
    In our case, the Prime became driveway art behind a BMW i3-REx:
    • EV range - BMW i3-REx
    • gas range - Prime
    If Prius Prime matches your requirements, enjoy.

    You could do a series of benchmarks and share the data here:
    • 20-30 mph - about 20 minutes or when the MPG does not change
    • 45-55 mph - "
    • 65-75 mph - "
    • use a loop to average out elevation and wind effects
    • alternative, two bi-directional tests averaged together
    Then use the three benchmark points and a quadratic equation formula solver to generate a MPG = A*(v**2) + B*v + C. Finally plot the curves from 10 mph to 90 mph and share them here. You'll actually add to the body of knowledge. For good measure, I'll show to do the same with roll-down coefficients from the EPA.

    That works for me. The idea is to expand our knowledge of how it works.

    Be sure and measure tire pressure too. Once we have metrics, we can make experimental changes such as aerodynamic tweaks and tire pressure to quantify the effects.

    I could do 0 - 5 mph for 0.16 miles easy, since it's a bumpy, slight decent (with one bump that usually slows the car 1 -2 mph) but keeps the car rolling between 3 -5 mph for the duration and starting of full stop. But the range gets freaky wide. From about 8 kWh/mimi/kWh to about 89 kWh/mi mi/kWh.
    Try an make sense of that.

    Just did a 108 mile round trip in 23 degrees. Average speed 65 outbound. 55 inbound. Mpg outbound 77.6 Mpg inbound 83.5. In Power mode the whole time on “highway” the entire way. Engine was already warm from earlier in the day.

    These metrics could be improved by including the relative wind direction and strength as well as relative altitude changes.
