I'll have to read up on your famous soda can repair.

I can't over the the FCP guarantee. I can order a Porsche 911 kit for $92.00 and wiper blades. Buy it once and done for life. I'll have to try this

@JC91006 If your wife's calling the shots and she's threatening to trade the Porsche in, sometimes you gotta cut corners. That's maybe $6 JB Weld (didn't even use all of it) at Walmart, and easily 1/100 the cost of a new thermostat housing.

Maybe we should be trying to find whatever we can get from them that may work fine in our Prii. Then pay once and be done.

EDIT-. I don't want to make my wife look villainous for wanting to trade in the Porsche. I had forgotten to mention that I had replaced the High Pressure Fuel Pump (to no effect) when I was diagnosing the engine trouble I posted in @gromittoo 's thread. That was another $1000+ (from FCP) in parts and some tools that I didn't have. And luckily she is getting to drive it now she just told me she's paying $500 a month to insure the two cars.

unfortunately they are Euro specialist, not sure much of the Prius stuff will be there (if any). But I do have a Toyota labeled BMW and a Porsche. I can use their parts for sure.

For the cost of $20 flat rate USPS shipping, I can get oil, filter, gaskets for every oil change.

They even sell performance brake kits, $800 with a lifetime warranty. Imagine if people track their cars, they will go through a set every weekend and get them replaced for free. I don't know how this place stays in business

This is definitely a concern brought up at times on forums. AND I have a couple of experiences/issues with their warranty:

I bought a fuel strainer for a W126 (old '91 S Class) which did not thread into the fuel tank. I called them and advice given I tried some more until I damaged/destroyed the thread in the tank. I did not opt to get a free replacement. I bought an IACV for a W201(old '92 190E) and while the problem went away for a little bit, it came back. They replaced it for free (with my paying to ship back the old one) and it did not solve the problem. I searched and they don't carry it anymore but anyways may not have been broken or the new Bosch may not be good??? Others have reported issues.

Pricing: I noticed they got rid of their price match guarantee, which originally really worried me about their survival. Comparing pricing with other companies it may be cheaper buying from ie Rock Auto. So if the part has a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer, or AutoZone, I won't put all my money in FCP Euro.

Rockauto is my go to place for parts. Everything is so accessible and so cheap. Why go anywhere else?

At FCP I think performance brakes/rotors for track use and oil would be their loss leaders. They have data on how much they are giving away and if the data still supports the lifetime replacement, then I guess they'll continue with their business model. Most parts you buy from them will be 1 time replacement parts, won't ever need a lifetime replacement. That's where they would make back their money.

BTW-. I checked and FCP Euro has 0W-20 that Liqui Moly recommends for Prii. Does your manual note 5W-30? (What year is yours)?

The shipping back to FCP is at least $20. So your savings for a Prius oil change is not much. But those euro cars that take 8-10 quarts, the savings add up fast.

I mainly use 5w-30 for all my cars. I don't use much of 0w-20

I wanted to update an interesting find about this "Lifetime Warranty". Getting ready for another 9.5 qt oil change and surprisingly the OEM filter that I bought is no longer sold by them. Well, the policy states you order the replacement, of which I ordered 2 5L Liqui Moly 0W-40 A40 oil, but when I try to reorder the filter it says not found. I guess there goes my lifetime warranty on that. (To top things off the dang thing didn't even come with a gasket for the filter canister, so a few extra $ at the Porsche dealer)....

Okay, so I'm sitting here having applied for the warranty replacement of 2 5L 0W-40 A40 bottles. Got it packed nicely into the box they sent the replacements in. (Technically I put in an order for two jugs, then submitted a claim for the old order).

So I'll get $109.13 credit, BUT cheapest shipping back via FedEx is $58.xx! I guess I still save about $50 but sure eats into the savings shipping it back cross country...

You can find it cheaper. Just buy the equivalent Mobil 1 for under $30. Save the hassle

Good point. 2 5 Qt jugs at Walmart last I checked runs about $50. Technically 10 L is 10.56 qts but ehh, not worth collecting, carefully pouring into the empty containers, packing nicely, and sending it via FedEx, which was cheapest (not by much) among UPS, USPS, and DHL (which only has express). It's approved oil either way....

Many people would send 1 jug using large flat rate priority mail box, that's about $20. Do it twice and it'll be a $10 savings vs Fedex
