Oh no! Hybrid system warning light.

    The hybrid cooling pump runs in IG-ON mode (push start button twice, foot off brake). It should sound like an aquarium pump, right behind the left headlight. In a quiet garage, you can hear it inside the car. You'll need a flashlight shining down the open neck to see fluid movement, and it should be very apparent. You don't have to worry about excess heat, and the reservoir is not under pressure.

    Thanks, everybody; I have checked the inverter water pump working status in IG-ON mode, I pretty much sure there is no wave in water reservoir, and no high frequency pump running noise being heard, please see the video below, should I order a new inverter water pump for replacement? or there is other possibility cause the pump to stop working? thanks!

    Luscious Garage posted info about the inverter pump recall. The recall has probably expired but it is worth checking into.

    Happy update: It was just the inverter pump. Got it replaced for a few hundred bucks. Car runs great.

    Shout out to Aric at PriusKings in Brooklyn for a great job.

    Let's see if I can drive this thing around the equator 10 more times.

    The only thing I would say to the OP...and anyone really...
    Is that they are called WARNING lights for a reason.

    They are designed to warn you of a problem.

    That doesn't mean you necessarily have to panic every time you see one, but continually resetting the light, or assuming the problem the light represent is always the cheapest or easiest path is dangerous. It's NOT always as easy as tightening your gas cap.

    Especially with a Prius which has a myriad of computer controlled and monitored systems, I'm getting the warning light BUT the vehicle seems to be running fine...is not good enough. Trust the WARNING, not the momentary reality that the vehicle seems to be driving fine.

    Welcome to Prius Chat.

    You might be better to start your own thread in the Generation 1 Prius Discussion forum as that is what you have. Also if you could included some details about the car (kms on the ODO, etc) and a description of the problem for which you want help.

    I’m having the same problem with my Prius too: the light that comes on is the Cat converter and after the hybrid system. As today, I’m still wondering which one should I fix. I m not sure which one is the real problem.

    I know you've already resolved your problem, but in case you're trying to access info about the status of your 12V battery in the future, I found the following video pretty helpful, at least for 2nd gen 2004-2009 Prius models:



    It starts with hitting the power button once without putting your foot on the brake, then holding the Display button on the MFD while turning the lights on and off 3×. Then push Menu followed by Display Check followed by Vehicle Signal Check. That'll give you one reading and then hitting the power button again will give another, as the video shows.
