I have seen some threads recently complaining about PM not working. I have received PMs in the past, but none since mid-May, it looks like. It's a feature I hardly ever use.

I think this topic is interesting, which is why I started this thread and collected links to all the other threads I could find where different approaches were being worked out. When I find new information on the topic, I try to add it here. I don't really try to add a lot of my personal opinion here.

But here's one: as for working on new specific approaches to this general thing, I'm not sure it wouldn't be best to start other threads specific to those approaches, work their details out there, and link to those threads here. That way this thread wouldn't get super long and tangled, and would stay mostly an introduction to the idea with links out to detailed threads.

FYI, plug out power says no dice for their appliances as hopes of using the RAV4 Prime.

What's the sticking point? Voltage too high?

Maybe make a wiki in that section about this?

The box. The way it's terminals are configured & sealed up like no body's business they say.

For those who happen to have a Toyota or Lexus hybrid, the PlugOut would be good to look at.

I'm finding the most I can draw off a turd gen 12v system is 2KW before V drops near 11VDC. Def gonna want to hook up to the 208-230VDC battery. Sent msg to the solar guys. Any other leads?

And if you even manage to draw that much, you've shown the converter's published specs to be conservative, as they're 120 amps, or around 1.7KW, of which the car has to use at least 0.4KW, and you're also above the rating of both the 125 amp fuse in the front fuse box and the 140 amp in the battery clamp (if you're on the battery side of that).

So yes, for those levels of power, the kinds of solutions linked in this thread will be the ones of interest.

Haven't followed the entries closely, but what is the intended use? What loads are wanted?

1.21 gigawatts of course! Just want to get more than two kilowatts without taxing the system

Prius can provide up to 3.6kw reliably.

I’ll give you $50 electronically if you can somehow find me a solution for this problem with the inverter

220 volt dc to pvi6000 inverter to house panel (240 vac)

One idea I have is to come off of the 12 V system with a small non-powerful inverter, run 240 V alternating current to the inverter, and give power to make the inverter think that the grid is active, then that would let the inverter take power from the high-voltage system of the Prius and feed it into the house panel

$50 reward for someone to give solution

For somebody who limits any knowledge about himself your request may be a hard sell.

But the fundamental problem is a grid tied inverter is looking for a perfect non-deviating grid waveform that will sink a small to large current. Without that the grid tied inverter shuts down in less than 100ms. Even a powerful 24kw Generac generator can't match the specs needed much less some 12v to 240v inverter full of waveform distortions and frequency shifts.

Much better to buy the $6,500 Generac for whole house or a $1,500 version with 8.5 kw and a mechanical interlock, both of which far surpass the Prius power backup capability. Leave the Prius for driving unless a 1200 watt 12v to 120v direct to the Prius is enough.

"or a $1,500 version with 8.5 kw and a mechanical interlock" - I dont know what you mean but i am very interested in this idea. Explain and elaborate if possible, it would be appreciated

This question is a crosspost from this existing thread here, where it's already been asked and other members like Leadfoot have already offered good answers:

200 VDC - 240 VAC INSTALL PLEASE HELP, I will pay you if you get me lead for an inverter | PriusChat

Would it be possible to keep the further discussion of that particular issue over on that thread?

That way, this one stays kind of uncluttered as an overview thread for high-voltage inverter solutions.
