Did you choose your car in Settings->Connection profile?

Hi. Yes, it's the same as yours.

    Screenshot 2022-05-23 at 22.59.01.png

When you select Noncontinuous Monitors do you get the page with the Reading bar at the bottom? When it gathers the info does it just pop up on your screen with the info or do you have to access it from a file or another screen? I'd really like to get that EGR flow reading.

It pop up on screen with the info.
You can see same info in Torque too.
Shooting in the dark. What OBD do you have? Maybe he's the culprit?

Not familiar with this model but you should be fine with it. I read a lot of comments about working fine with Prius.
So I don't know why it doesn't read Noncontinuous monitor in Car Scanner. :(

PS I have the paid version of Car Scanner if that matters.

Actually this is what Certified Toyota Master mechanics do and recommend. However they are going to change the intake and pcv while they are at it, partially because their labor rate rarely justifies hours of cleaning and they work to a higher standard of reliability on the first try than some diy. For them, warranty work comes out of their pocket.

Not saying a pristine egr cooler is not nice and should be replaced or diy cleaned if it throws codes. If the engine is not burning an excessive amount of oil because of bad rings, the cooler is unlikely to clog even though it is and always will be a flawed design significantly updated in gen4.

In the end, a bad engine design does not become reengineered by cleaning. It takes an effort like the gen4 where each and every mistake is redesigned. It is the nature of engineering that each generation improves on the mistakes identified in the previous. I go with the experts.

Hi again. I really appreciate your time on this.
I do have the Pro version of Car Scanner and I also upgraded to Torque Pro earlier today but I can't see the EGR Flow reading in either. The only thing I can think of is that it is a Japanese import car but I don't see why it would make a difference. I do have a reading for the Intake Manifold Pressure - 14.5038 psi but I'm guessing that has nothing to do with it?

    I'm baffled now. o_O
So you press Noncontinuous monitor and you have a blank page with Reading bar at bottom?
When I press Noncontinuous monitor I have that Reading bar at bottom but the page is filled with results and that bar is filling slowly till the end.

Sorry but I'm out of ideas. :(

Yes, just a blank screen with the Reading bar at the bottom. Once it finishes reading still a blank screen with Refresh at the bottom. No data at all.
    I'm out of ideas also!
    Thanks again for trying.

I wouldn't have guessed Japanese versions would lack OBD Mode 6, but I've been caught by surprise before.

Sounds like the kind of obscure thing @Elektroingenieur might know.

Just another quick update - when running the Test Results feature in Torque Pro I get an error message: ECU does not appear to support mode $06.
I assume this must be why I'm not getting results in Torque Pro or Car Scanner Pro.

Japan has adopted its own J-OBD Ⅱ standard (overview, details (PDF); both in Japanese). This incorporates many of the same ISO and SAE standards that are also referenced in U.S. EPA and CARB regulations, and it has broadly comparable requirements, but I don’t believe it requires automakers to implement the ISO 15031-5 (SAE J1979) standard that defines Service $06, as such.

    Managed to replace it today!

Really hard to access the clamps and bolts with my large hands but was manageable when I moved out the brake fluid holder.

Old cooler was almost fully clogged. I replaced with a new one and also replaced all cooler at the same time.

Engine ran a bit rough for the first minutes but now it runs fine.

    Thanks for the tips everyone!

Km is about 248.000. Very little rust so i pray it can last 2-3 more years.

155K miles, for a cooler "almost totally blocked". That's a good data point.

Excuse my flaky memory: was that the only EGR component not cleaned; you've done the EGR valve, the pipe connecting to the intake manifold AND the intake manifold (in particular it's EGR passages)?

Yep, everything is cleaned now. Used a cleaning set for guns to clean the egr passages on the intake manifold.

Almost the exact same mileage as when I cleaned mine, which was not near totally blocked, but was down from 21ish to 10ish kPa.

So the data seem to be revealing that blockage by miles driven shows a decent spread, whatever the factors may be that influence it.

My EGR at least had some "flow" in it. I had to move the car a little when the egr pipe to manifold was out and there was noise coming - like an old 2-stroke engine.
