2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Revealed

Your population sounds more sensible. AWD seems more popular here. People seem to feel they need it for few times they have to deal with snow. Guess I missed the news of all the pile ups back when cars were mostly FWD, or even RWD.

 

If the AWD is conventional, there can be at least two more periodic fluid change requirements.

 

Oh god...don't get me started on AWD. I have lived in various areas of MN my entire life and *never* have felt the need for AWD. In fact, folks around here seem to get overconfident with AWD...and end up in the ditch in winter. Subaru has done an awesome job of convincing everyone they 'need' AWD....I'll give them that.

I'm a huge proponent of snow tires though. Too many spend a LOT of $$$ on a large AWD vehicle...and then cheap out and leave the god awful OEM tires on. The Michelin Cross Climate 2 is a great all around choice if you can't/won't do snows. I experimented with them this winter on our 2012 Sonata and I'm amazed at how close they come to snow tires.

 

I think the vast majority of Aussies have never seen snow on a road. Unless I've lived a sheltered life.

 

I have always wanted to visit Australia! Looks like my kind of place.

BTW - I have been following a YouTube channel called "Life In a Nutshell". They are currently sailing the Northwest Territories around the "Victoria Settlement" area. Talking about remote! Pretty cool...

Edit...well that was a strange coincidence. Just after I posted this reply, this new video about Australia dropped on another channel I follow :

 

I put down a deposit at my local dealer on 7-19-22 and was told I'm the first in line for the Cross Hybrid. No word on when production will start but hopefully soon...I'm guessing it may be towards the later part of this year. Is there an avg estimate of the time between Toyota announces a new model vs when they actually hit dealer lots?

For our family needs, the Cross Hybrid seems to fit our needs. 37mpg is definitely not great by Toyota standards but as already mentioned...this may be underrated and certainly I think real world MPG hopefully can get closer to 40.

 

My dealer just told me that they're hearing Toyota may be starting to build the Corolla Cross Hybrid in December and deliveries potentially in Jan of 2023.

In a normal year, they said usually new MY models will start to be built around September to start December/holiday deliveries but with obviously the COVID situation it's all pushed back now.

 

Lol, They might start building in December? Remember back in the day that they actually built large numbers of the newest models and you'd just go down to the stealership and buy one? I've seen plenty of Prius door tags that indicate they start rolling the next year's model off the assembly line in October of the previous year so the dealerships can start selling the newest model in Q4. And now they won't even have the first cars till Q1?

Tesla may of revolutionized auto manufacturing, but this new routine of promising cars that they haven't even started building yet and don't plan to build very many of is not the type of behavior automakers should be copying from Tesla.

 

Read somewhere worldwide builds are down (from plan) 13 million cars including all manufacturers.

 

Well, this is not just Toyota...the supply crunch is affecting 100% of car makers.

Also, and again this is not just Toyota...but car makers usually will announce a new model months before they are actually being built and onto the roads. The Corolla Cross Hybride was announced in early June and I'm just glad I'm #1 on our local dealer list for this car.

 

It's coming here next month. With a 2.0 litre engine. When I did some GOOGLING on how it actually goes - it's about PRIUS size, and only slightly heavier - the fuel use is considerably more. 5.0-5.2l/100 - compared with 4.1-4.2 on PRIUS.

 

Is that an official estimate, or Toyota one?
Toyota underestimates for the pre-official numbers. The first one for the Crown was around 39mpg, and now it's 41mpg. The official could still be better.

 

The official was:
“Urban cycle results achieved 4.4L/100km and extra urban cycle achieved 4.6L/100km. Results achieved for Corolla Cross GX 2WD SUV Hybrid in ADR81/02 combined drive cycle fuel consumption testing.”

Strangely, no combined figure has been released yet.

In contrast - the PRIUS brochure I have only quotes COMBINED - as "Fuel economy – ADR81/02 combined cycle14 - 3.4L/100km"
