Sounds like an extension of the VW charge network failure.

There is no network here to the north, if they build it out I might be able to get to my northern destinations

Hopefully that includes some L2 at restaurants, hotels, grocery and others so those of us without DC ports get some benefit in intralata travel

I would like to see that coupled with initiatives to make sure apartments and gated communities are required to have something as basic as right to charge and 110vzc outlets by parking

  3. To be comparative, CCS in Europe works very well (e.g. Ariya), and so USA would be playing catch-up.

"The Department of Housing and Urban Development has continued to support the inclusion of EV charging infrastructure as part of its green building standards through several of its housing financing programs. In addition, they are exploring the installation of EV chargers in multi-family rental housing as part of their Green Mortgage Insurance Premium incentive – lowering annual premiums for participants."

The statement also talks about charging infrastructure in rural areas. Being just a statement, there isn't many hard details.

There is a link to the proposed regulations and program. We have 90 days to share our opions.

I am thinking every compatible EV should have a ‘fee’ to fund the program. Teslas would be exempt unless a compatible Tesla-to-CCS adapter is bought. Let the EVs fund the program.

There should be a maintenance surcharge to fund the maintenance staff.

There should be a maintenance performance requirement … say 24 hrs to diagnose and 72 hrs if parts are needed.

In short, the beneficiaries should fund the program like Tesla funded the SuperCharger network.

it should be a for profit program, with the profits paying off the bond.

I would be a little happier if my antique battery free hybrid that has to pay double the registration tax to the state would at least have some used towards charging infrastructure instead of assembly salaries

The whole point of expanding EV chargers is to make EV adoption easier. Adding fees will be a negative force on the adoption rate. Do rural areas pay more for electricity because the feds kicked in more money for the infrastructure?

Tesla will open their network to others in order to get access to the subsidies. It is absolutely why they went to CCS in Europe. So any fees will be added to them.

If Tesla forgoes future subsidies, that moat will shrink.

Yet Tesla continues to add exclusive to Tesla Superchargers in the USA. We should have a new one open in Madison/Huntsville next week.

There are those who claim Tesla profits come from selling CARB credits. These folks also ignore the 4680 cells, LFP batteries, Gigapress castings, and two new state of the art factories in Austin and Berlin.

Tesla’s supercharger moat is wide and deep while this ‘proposal’ is likely years away from the first fast DC charger.

Talk about a miserable page to try and read

locks up blanks, must be a whole crapload of stuff in the background

And for me 2000 miles in 4 days on a PHEV driving 85mph was difficult given bio breaks of passengers, a desire to eat, fuel gas and sleep . Mind you I rarely encountered a hotel I could plug in at and charging stations up north going toward the west are rare.

I think 500 mile days is unreasonable to expect consistently considering traffic road destruction and the multitude of other problems you can encounter.
Mind you I’ve done 900 mile days but I was tired, enraged and in pain after doing so and 900 miles was exceptionally unusual, even 16-18 hours of driving it’s hard to hit 900miles given all the bs you encounter.

Now if your the only car in Utah, sure it’s easy but hit 2x 1 hour delays sitting in traffic and things go downhill fast

Oakton VA to Houston, Texas is 1,393 miles. Drove it starting at 5 in the morning to 5 the next morning in a '89 Dodge Grand Caravan only stopping for gas but I only did 1,200 miles solo because I stopped short because I was to pick up my son from college and he had a exam to turn in so no point being to early. I got 4 hours sleep, continued the remaining 3 hours to Houston , picked him up and all his stuff and made it half way beck the next day, of course he was sleeping that part of the trip. Couldn't do it today, couldn't do it in an EV. And wouldn't want to.

She did not use fast DC chargers. EVs are an applied IQ test: wrong car; wrong route, and; results match her EV skills.
