Drive it clean with techron or AMOCO PREMIUM fuel.

Also, I have added techron at 6 times the recommended levels with no issues at all.

Sticky intake valves, it fixed em. 200k miles on an old volvo, saved pulling the head

Why? Just get four plugs from Repco, SuperCheap, or even Toyota. NGKs or Densos.
The plugs themselves don't look that bad aside from the oil on the porcelain. The gaskets on the spark plug wells are leaking. You will need to replace the Engine Valve Cover Gasket (p/n11213-21011) which incorporates new spark plug well gaskets.
What looks black to me is the top of the pistons, the bores it's hard to actually see what condition they're in due to the lens flare of the camera lens. Piston soak might clean that if you can get something like Berryman B12.
You can use Techstream (or equivalent) to do that.

Up to 2017, I used to add a bottle of Techron at least once every year because I used to get misfires from cylinder #1. After that, Caltex stopped selling it here, have tried asking every station I see, but can no longer find it.

I have used injector cleaners every now and then... I'm wary of driving it right now in case I kill the catalytic converter

Thank you for the detailed reply!

My bad, when I said everything looks black, I meant pistons (the thing all the way at the bottom of the bore ). Don't have the technical terms down :)

Those shops either don't have the densos in stock or delivery will be in at least 6 business days for $42 each, because I want to use the Denso original SK16R11!! I'd rather wait a few more days to get them from Rock Auto for a quarter of the price.

I am looking for a tech stream, found a shop in Australia. Does the item and shop look legit?

I'm in Australia, might have trouble sourcing this. Some people on YouTube recommended using carpet cleaner and other detergents which was interesting.

How did you fill the cat? Is it through the socket for the O2 sensor under the car near the catalytic converter?

you have to remove it from the car, shove some plastic up the header end of pipe so you dont have to waste cleaning product, yes you can use the sensor hole, and no none of those other products are going to melt off burnt on carbon if any exists in the cat.

One good news is I finally managed to obtain spark plugs on ebay from a well reviewed local shop, and they arrive in 3 days. I couldn't get SK16R11 anywhere after 3 days of searching but denso kindly took my call even though I was not a trade /distributor and confirmed IK16TT is a perfect long life substitute.

At $60 it is about the same price as having them shipped from Rock Auto including FedEx delivery, but it is good to support local businesses after all, and they will be here quicker.

Ik16 has a lower life span

Ebay is a gamble as there have been cases of counterfeit parts, especially spark plugs.

Given that the price of a genuine Denso or NGK plug in this neck of the woods is $25-$40 each, I'm not sure they are genuine at $15 each including freight. However, if you purchased them from a reputable outfit with a 'bricks-n-mortar' shop that also has an online shop and they also have good reviews, then you just might have got a bargain. Time will tell. Also, if you inspect the plugs when you get them, it is pretty easy to tell just by looking at them if they are genuine or not. There are plenty of images on google that shows real plugs vs knock-offs.

Thanks for the heads up, I read about the counterfeit ones and made sure to check the Denso YouTube video - they feel and look real, including the packaging. The seller has been around since 2010 and has 911/933 positive reviews just in the past 30 days alone. The bad reviews are primarily about slow shipping.

My car is up and running pretty smoothly again after adding a lot of fuel preservative and a whole bottle of Redline Si-1 fuel system cleaner!! There was a lot of rough running, noise, sputtering, shaking, and big puffs of smoke, but after putting these in and waiting a couple of days, they did their magic! I had my first long drive today as I was given enough confidence by the mechanic who came today.

There's still a lot of dark smoke coming from the exhaust but the mechanic told me that this might be the redline si1 doing its job cleaning all the stuff.

I would have used techron but it is no longer available here in Australia for the past few years. Redline is considered one of the best too due to high PEA content and I was lucky to know a good supplier near me.

Thank you everyone for your guidance and giving me the confidence that I could get my beloved prius to run again. I've bought the valve cover gasket and the mechanic will return next week to change that

Hi Tracy and Dolj - just wondering - the rotten egg smell in my exhaust seems to have gone away now, but how can I verify if my Catalytic converter is still in good working condition, or needs further maintenance?

Drive the car and see if it throws a P0420 code. The car will test the cat for you.

Thanks, I've driven around, still more smoke than usual coming out, although much less of it now.

There are no codes but I wanted to check it due to the strong rotten egg smell that I understand came from a fuel contaminated catalytic converter. Maybe I can perform preventative maintenance rather than wait for error codes?
