Being pros, you probably have to play by the rules, reinstall the cursed lower cooler bolt. I can see that.

it's not so much the contortionist thing that bugs many mechanics. Rather as we age, our skin gets so thin that it takes virtually nothing to crack it open & make you bleed. By the time you install a block heater or EGR - you look like you got mauled by a pitbull.

Both true. You should see my arms!!

But it's not as severe as it was before my last cardiologist checkup. I convinced them to stop the baby aspirin because I was bleeding all over the customers' cars.

Did my first solo EGR replacement yesterday. Not bad. No blood this time!! Also, I found that I have a short socket extension that's just right with my deep well 12mm socket to get to the unreachable nut without being too long. And I found a light and a place to mount it that really helps.

Does your Automotive Repair Facility work on enough different makes of Hybrids that you guys are able to make some observations about different make cars and their reliability , quality?

It would be interesting to hear a professionals opinions' on different makes of Hybrids. I understand if you haven't formed any opinions.

We get an occasional Volt, Clarity (rare), BMW, or Ford. I don't know about everyone else's opinions, but from what I've seen, nothing else is as reliable as a Toyota hybrid except a Lexus hybrid. There's a reason those two brands are always at the top of Consumer Reports' reliability rankings. Not that any of them are really bad, they just aren't over the top reliable like Toyotas. We just sold a 2013 Prius with over 500,000 miles. We get lots of 250k plus units. The first two Prii my wife and I bought had over 100k miles on them.

Not likely!! I don''t recall the price. ... but ...
We just sold a '13 Persona with 192k for $14k and have a '15 trim II listed for $12k with 302k miles. Prices for used Prii are still amazingly high. One customer recently traded his big honkin' Cadillac for a PiP. I'm amazed at the prices some PriusChat members are saying they sold their Primes for. This is one screwed up economy!!

In real life, it's kind of a burgundy. Apparently only available on the Personas.

Just skimming the brochure, can't for the life of me figure out what levels have particular colors. Usually only certain levels will have certain colours?

Persona was a different deal, with its own color.

Black Cherry Pearl, couldn't get it on any trim except the Persona.

Right. Definitely NOT Barcelona Red My 2005 was Barcelona red and the color on the Persona is totally different from that. It is Black Cherry Pearl after seeing the pix on your link.

The business keeps growing. And we lost a good mechanic this week because he's moving out of town for family reasons.

Todd was already looking for more help, so if you or someone you know in the Tampa area is looking for a job in car repair, has a drivers license and a clean record, give Tampa Hybrids a call. Todd has picked some great people and it really is a good work environment, but it's hard to find good team members. He's needing everything from housekeeping to shop assistant to master mechanic.

    Call Todd at: ‭(813) 241-5307‬

Here's a link with more details.

I was looking thru the listings and I like the fact you guys do a lot of preemptive EGR and head gasket swaps. Is that becoming a regular thing now?

I may be in the market for another Prius at some point. Does Todd do swaps? Our 2012 Prius v wagon has around 175K on it now...and needs a head gasket at some point. Honestly...I'd rather 'trade it in' to a reputable shop and get something with a few less miles on it. Going to wail until used auto prices start dropping though...which may be quite a long wait. :ROFLMAO:

'Preemptive head gasket replacement' is a better term...haha. (y)

Quite a few of the listings at Tampa Hybrids have head gasket replacement listed as a differentiator. Just wondering what the criteria is for them doing the replacement. I'm wondering if they are starting to do 'preemptive replacement' of the head gasket if the Prius comes into the shop over a certain threshold on the odometer.

Jerry would know...let's see what he says. (y)

The first Gen 3 tapped the exhaust gas before the catalytic converter so a lot of raw exhaust would gum-up the exhaust valve. I never did one but I suspect doing the exhaust valve made head gasket easier.
