it's never come over 42MPG before, but now, i can come to nearly 50MPG, it's really work to have EGR cleaning job done. I wish I can do it sooner :)

and please notice at my average speed of 62MPH, too

I have two of these intercoolers now I'll just drop one off at the machine shop and let them tank it and one is on the car getting dirty so they'll always be one and rotation ready to put on

Congrats. Did you also clean the intake manifold, and throttle body? That'll even make it better and smoother.

Thanks for that report! Did you happen to collect the EGR flow numbers from before and after cleaning?

It would be cool to be able to correlate an amount of MPG improvement with an amount of EGR flow improvement. Then people could look at their current flow numbers and estimate what improvement the effort might bring.

Yes, it would! If that correlation is strong, the fact that fuel consumption of my car has remained very consistent should be a good sign, when I don't have capability to read the official flow test value. I cleaned out the manifold last year, but not the cooler yet. ScanGauge reports no trouble codes.

Could just be short trip with a tail wind? ;)

I don't see a correlation between clogged EGR and lower mpg. Think the main motivation for cleaning is to avoid head gasket failure, and all the fun ramifications.

    How many miles on it?

I might have seen a slight improvement with cleaning mine, though I'm generally very leery of reporting MPG changes because the signal to noise ratio for MPG is so low.

Since efficiency is one of the reasons for having EGR in spark-ignited engines, it wouldn't be a surprising result.

As with most things, gathering more data will contribute more to understanding.

on the other thread I also regret about this because I did not know it sooner when doing my cleaning job. So i can only capture the "after" logs but not "before". But i will ask my friend to do so with his 2012 prius and share a report later :)

P0401, but you don't see it until the flow test value drops below the 'min', which is quite low compared to normal values.

Therefore, some people prefer to just watch the flow test value themselves, and decide what their personal 'min' is, and clean it then.

Great mpg improvement for that mileage. My friend's Prius is due for a new set of tires so he ordered from 4Wheelonline. He's also getting the EGR and intake manifold scheduled for cleaning.

Yeah, it's worth every single hour of my diy job to clean them (EGR/intake manifold...)

Just clean throttle body this noon time as well. Will try to capture another milestone this holiday trip

I noticed MPG improvement as well. It’s the pumping losses that get bigger if EGR clogged hence worse MPG. I guess pumping losses is one of the reasons -along with Nox- they implemented EGR in the first place. And knock limit is reduced by EGR but i don’t know whether this is obvious in Prius. At least with some turbo gasoline engines the impact to fuel economy is said to be ”serious”. Properly working cooler improves it further

Cooled EGR shows benefits for gasoline engines
