Hey gang, hoping someone can help. I've got a 2014 Prius C. The car showed the overheating warning light and when I pulled over, the coolant level was very low. Added coolant and brought it to the shop. They pressure tested the cooling system and the block and found no issues. They found the cooling fan wasn't coming on, so that was changed and the system flushed. A short time later, overheat light came on. This time I noticed that the car was puking out the overflow. Back to the shop. New thermostat put in. Still getting the same thing. The car will only overheat if on the highway at 70mph+ or if working hard...like going up a hill. I suspect there is still air in the system. If I'm just sitting in a parking lot with the car on, when the ICE fires, I hear gurgling from the passenger front...likely the heater core. How do I get this air out of the system? Is burping the Prius C different than any other car?

Could the water pump be starting to fail?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Welcome and sorry to hear this; Take it to another shop for a second opinion. That first shop sounds like a hack; and definitely didn't check their work when they were done!!!
The car shouldn't overheat under load and someone botched a test or the shop/mechanic is simply guessing at what's wrong. If your coolant pump is intermittent; there should be codes in your ECU memory. Take it to a Prius specialty shop to get it properly diagnosed. With the proper diagnostic computer link; the mechanic can manually toggle each individual system on/off for a proper test.

    Hope this helps.

It currently has 316,000 miles. I didn't buy it new. I bought it at 291,000 last September. The original owner put all the miles on it and Carfax showed extensive service history (which I confirmed). So it was very well cared for, but does have a ton of miles on it.

Do you know if the engine water pump has been replaced?
