How do you keep the valve fully seated so the spring will compress enough to reinstall the collets? Even getting them out in the first place would be tricky .... the piston isn't a touch fit to the valve at TDC, they get a bit noisy when that happens

When you put the new valve guide seal on it will hold the valve in place.
At least they have on the hundreds I've done.
On every engine I've done the piston in close to the valves so they don't move
very much. Sometimes it can be tricky. But I've never had any problems.

And as needed: results may vary....

Thanks for the reply, I've never actually tried to do it without the compressed air so I'll take your word for the effectiveness of this method. Thankfully my mechanicing days are in the past so I don't expect to do many more now I'm in my semi retired yrs, I'll stick to solar and lithium batteries for off grid houses and RV's, a lot easier on the body :)

Who is going to make a step-by-step video for us novices on this procedure?

    Kind regards

@NutzAboutBolts had a video on valve seal replacement. Not linked here, but hopefully will still be on his YouTube channel if you dig.

Thank you Mendel. I've just made a new thread for this topic. Maybe that was a mistake.

    Also
Aldo Mendel, that is not a gen 3 prius engine in the video. Does anyone know any videos out there for the 1.8L gen 3 prius engine?

    Thanks
