    Yep, unless the price of BEVs comes down substantially. But unless the gas price plunges back to the pre-Ukrainian war period, it is likely that electricity charging is going to be cheaper than gas for most places in the US. On my PP, the EV cost has always been higher than driving it on HV until this year when the gas price hiked.

    I currently have a community solar contact that gives me a 15% discount on the electricity bill, but it is still at $0.204/kWh. At this price for a PP, as long as the gas price stays above $3, EV mode is cheaper. At a current gas price of ~$5/gal, the break-even electricity rate would be ~$0.38/kWh, so even with a 30% hike @bisco mentioned, it is likely that EV is still cheaper (if the rate is currently $0.25/kWh, then 30% increase would be $0.325/kWh).

    Yep; I second that!!! We have a decent Hydro dam infrastructure, more wind, solar, and tidal generation coming online everyday. If push comes to shove; we can start building nuke facilities - even though its unpopular.
    I don't know why politicians are poop-pooping methane and natural gas; byproducts of oil drilling. IMHO; making us dependent on a single energy source makes us weaker, as a whole....... Someone attacks that single source; then what are we going to do.......

    Food for thought...

    i think outside of the desire to have one for reasons beyond financial, it will certainly be a tipping point.

    but more renewables will eventually sway it to electric hopefully.

    we're burning gas to make electricity. better than coal maybe, but not sustainable in the long run.

    Aren't there already programs to help the low income households with heating? I'm sure they could use more funds, but it's more than what options there is for car fuel.

    As much as i hate gardening - being forced to do it at dad's bidding - the sky high prices on much of our produce & veggies is the reason there are now 8 raised veggie beds in the back yard. might as well make SOME beneficial use of being retired.

    The increase in fertilizer costs also contributes to the rise in produce costs, it's not just fuel alone...

    Where we lived in Honduras, it was diesel generated and that was shipped from the mainland. It was about 50 cents per kWh. We were hyper frugal with electricity. Set the AC at 80ºF and the electric bill was still sometimes over $400.

    Ouch!
    Upon retirement - we got the heck out of SoCal last September but your rates made me want to check what the poor folks down there now have to pay during Peak summer - "time-of-use" rates;

    Oh wow!! Looks they are diesel powered, too. :eek:

    If we bought our electricity, ours would be about 13 cents per kWh for 1,000 or lower usage per month.

    I live in electric paradise. 8 cents CDN/kWh 24 hours a day. 95+% hydro power for the province, so very few carbon emissions. My next car will definitely be BEV (but not too soon—I really like my Prime).
