Anyone replaced brake pads due to wear?

    Hey man, thanks for the nice words , glad that you loved it. The hills and mountains of Jordan are hurting my Prius all the time(especially the mileage) :(

    I have over 180k on my 08, still do not need to change the brake linings.

    Prius's can be very easy on brakes. The rotors and drums never get hot under conservative braking and hence the fluid never thermal cycles. With no thermal cycle, the fluid never draws water. If you examine the master cylinder and the fluid level maintains its MAX level position, 1) The fluid will be clear (clean) 2) The pads will not have any wear. Rotors will rust when sitting for days in wet climates. Driving will remove this rust when below the speed that regeneration occurs. A slight grinding should will be noticed when this occurs. That is normal. Salted roads will exacerbate this condition, eventually requiring rotor replacement or resurfacing.

    I have a 2007 Prius, 135,000 now, and at 125,000 miles the front pads still had 6mm of the original 11mm and the rear shoes 4mm of 4mm. I did still clean and lube the slide pins and friction parts at that point. Even though they're not getting worn down, they are subject to the effects of the elements and you can get noises due to that and some will tell you that if the slide pins and points where the pads move on the support plate aren't well lubed it will shorten the life of the wheel bearings too because the brakes will pull harder on one side than the other. I tend to agree with that.
    I also put it in Neutral once in a while when I have a nice long hill I can coast down and use press the brakes to clean the pads and rotors of any corrosion buildup. In neutral it will use the friction brakes exclusively instead of the motor generator to slow down.

    My brakes rusted away in Buffalo NY where they salt the crap out of the roads. Had the rotors turned once under warrantee then at about 98k one of the inner pads wore down below inspection limits. Had rotors and pads replaced. Still I can't complain.

    I have a 2007 Prius two with 170K, I use it for business, 50-100 miles per day, a mix of city and freeway driving, I just replaced both front and rear today. We, here in Western Oregon, have mild winters, no salt, just rain. Not bad for 9 years and 170K!

    Hard to believe - I still can’t… I just pulled front tires off and there is over 50% break pad left on my 2009 Prius…I bought the car from a dealer at 80k miles, I now have 302k…I’ve never replaced the breaks

    The only times I have ever replaced pads on any Prius has been because of rustjacking.

    If I lived in a place with no salt, maybe I'd be able to see them die natural deaths, but that would take a long time.

    i changed mine at around 150k. they still had round 15/20k more miles left before it was to the metal....Ymmv.

    Best way is to check them. You can see the front pads without removing the wheel. rear is drum...so you'd have to remove the cover
