Gas now under $4 in some places locally but still as high as $4.49 in others.

One of the gas retailers in the next town over is selling fuel for $0.30 cheaper than everyone else.
It's an obvious loss-leader intended to draw customers into the attached full service grocery store and away from the LOVE's truck stop, 6 miles away......and it's WORKING!
They're almost at the point of having to direct traffic from the interstate and I haven't seen that many gas cans since the last hurricane.

Many of the bigs are starting to differentiate their cash price from the CC price.
    3-percent of $4 is a little more noticeable than 3% of $1.80... ;)

They're great cars but they don't fit my use case, besides....not is most decidedly NOT the time to buy a car unless you absolutely HAVE to.
It's like trying to buy ice two weeks after a hurricane.
I expect this to change a little bit after all the little darlings go back to school because all of the new college cars will have already been bought up and the summer driving season will have wound down a little.

I already pay for about 10,000 miles of “additional” Plug In
road tax on an antique hybrid I can’t plug in that doesn’t even have a functional hybrid battery.

Removing my Volt from my stable and replacing with a newer stick
saved about $1400ish (depending on what I want to include) of Insurance + Taxes , which is plenty

The plug in guys pay more than that and my experience isn’t the worst, about 3/5 of these United States charge plug in and economy fees.

Some folks have to pay equivalent to a 1 ton truck driving 25,000 miles for gas tax

Here is a map denoting states with plug in fees (and potentially fuel economy penalties)

Match the pay to play up to the EV registration chart and you will see most states charging fees have statistically ZERO percent EVs on the road.
(Only 10 or 11 states have close to a statistically significant portion of their fleet electrified)

Past performance is not indicative of future results and there can be no assurance that the future performance of any specific…

There has to be structural changes outside our country to make gas go much lower or a recession.

This is similar to the housing market that has ZERO positive indicators that normally would be dropping 60-90% staying steady in most of the country.

Nobody builds a significant number of houses past replacement and most Americans won’t spend the cost to entry so the net effect is a small stagnant but overpriced market

..or maybe walking more, riding a bike or minimizing your gas usage by having a vehicle like the Prius Prime- all which allow you to manage your gas usage and not be forced to let it manage you. Taking an active role in minimizing how much effect the price of gas may have on your own life.

This is hard to do and some may not be in a position to take active measures like these.

Minimizing the fuel cost involved in purchased goods is even more difficult but is sometimes possible - buying produce at your local farmers market etc

Just a few ideas to exert some personal control over your own fuel costs.

It's in the $4.15 range around here. Just that one little area was under $4.00. So I grabbed it even though at 1/8 tank, I could have driven another month or so. Hurricane season was also part of the decision.

We sold five cars yesterday. (They go in spurts.) Sever of them seemed to be couples with a teenager from what I noticed when I got a look out front.

Yeah, the gas price dropped ~$0.50/gal from last month's peak. It is now around $4.50/gal around here. But I think I can wait a bit longer. I still have 3 quarters of the tank.

So yesterday, ~300 miles for $25 Supercharger fees. One session to get home and at home, one to get back to my default. Could have saved by home or free charging but wanted the data point. This is consistent with $50-60 for 650-730 miles.

Surely your profile should display “other electric” not 2017 Prius prime

There are a couple of stations near Harrisburg Pa that are below $4!!

Hopefully the rest of the stations follow suit.

$3.92 on the Bullhead City AZ side of the river at Fastrip and Sam's Club, $3.94 at Arco.

Still $5.29 a gallon here on the Laughlin NV side of the river.

It's a no-brainer to fill up in Bullhead since we have to go across the river for shopping and the pharmacy once or twice a week anyway.

Next week, we'll be driving up through AL and MO to northwest IA in the wife's regular Prius. It'll be interesting to see what that costs compared to last summer's trip to Maine in the Prime. On long road trips, the Prime get about 2-3 mpg better mileage, so most of the difference from last year will be gas prices. We'd take the Prime but it's her car's turn and it has more luggage room as well as the BSM and stuff like that. Plus hers only has 30k miles on it and mine is up to almost 67k. Same model year.

We've learned how to max out grocery store discounts.
Had $1.80 off last week, saved some points for the next fill-up.
If you buy certain things, you get bonus points.
Helps because our area is expensive gaso.

Our region uses RBOB (RFG). One thing confuses me, Wall Street is always quoting RBOB price, but CBOB is never quoted, so it is hard to grasp how much extra RBOB (RFG) is costing. My technique is to compare COSTCO in my RFG area with COSTCO in another area that uses conventional.

So I pay $4.29 at Shell but the COSTCO by me is $3.79 and COSTCO elsewhere (UVa) is $3.55 so I get about +24 cents for RFG which sounds high. For last few years, the delta RFG/CFG was not that big, not sure if it is bigger now.
