Hello everyone. I'm new to this board. I'm excited to be purchasing a 2002 Prius in two weeks. I think I'm getting a great deal -- $12,400 for a car with 33,000 miles.

It'll be me second Toyota -- my first was a '94 pickup I bought new and still drive (178,000 miles so far).

I look forward to learning more about my Prius from this board.

Congrats! My dad has a 1st gen Prius. Nearly 100K miles, completely troublefree, his only complaint is that his gas mileage has dropped from 50-ish to 40-ish recently, perhaps the battery is getting old. His great experience with that car convinced us to get a '07 this week.

Classic Prius are *real* Prius, so you are doing good. Get the tire pressures up and the engine oil level down, and get a real spare tire on a steel rim. Does this 02 have the side air bags? Is it the rare 'purple easter egg' color?

It doesn't have the side air bags, and it's a respectable blue color.

What should I put the tire pressure at? And I hate to sound ignorant, but what do you mean by getting the engine oil level down?

welcome to PC and a low mile Classic if all the SB are up todate is a good car. Excellent mileage and a real pleasure to drive. Nice tight turning circle unlike the 2k4's and up. Keep the tires at 42 front and 40 rear and keep the oil in the ICE under the full mark. It seems to let oil mist into the intake manifold where it can cause problems. Which brand of tires are on it? The Bridgestone Potenza's were a real crummy tire but I've got the Dunlop SP10's on my Classic and they are wearing great. Is it the dark blue or the real light blue?

Here's the picture of it. Since I won't be able to acquire the car until Nov. 30, I don't know what kind of tires it has.

Your wheels are missing the little spring-loaded silver plastic center caps, paint color is brilliant blue pearl (code 8K8), that's all I can tell from the picture.

check in the trunk as that's where some of them end up as they tend to rattle and people take them off.

I've got a pair of '02s and I think one is the rare "purple easter egg" color. We call it lilac, it sort of looks different colors depending on the ambient lighting. Its got front and side airbags, cruise, 6CD and GPS. We average about 49 mpg with her. What makes it "Rare"

I picked up the car yesterday, and I love it. My friends think it's really cool. So far I'm getting around 50 mpg, and my wife swears I'm going to get killed letting it coast on only the electric engine.

Now I'm worrying on what to do about XM radio. I have an Airware I've used in my Toyota truck, but I could upgrade to something newer. I'd love to have the satellite radio hooked directly into the Prius radio, but so far the cassette adapter sounds fine. If anyone has thoughts on the install, please share.

I'd also be interested in the factory CD player since the computer screen would control it, but I assume that's going to cost a mint.

Metrotpn would probably be a source for either the single CD or 6CD players. Ask for Jesse the Prius guy. He just went on vacation though.

    Retail prices = high; discount = ??

Sometimes they show up on ebay, and you can take your chances there...
