    Hello everyone!

We are in the process to place an order for a 2022 Prius Prime here in Canada and we’re wondering if there’s a difference in comfort between the trims? Are the Softex seats more comfortable than the regular cloth seats?

More comfortable seats may be the only reason we move to a nicer trim, the basic infotainment system and physical buttons look more interesting than the upgrade.

    thanks!

I like the Softex seats. I really like the HUD and blind spot monitoring. And homelink, power driver’s seat, and 10 speaker JBL stereo are also functional.

it's too bad you have to order without trying. seats seem to be a very subjective item, you will find positive and negative coments about each type.
scan the packages, and see if they list any other differences like lumbar support

This is exactly where we are suck, I'm going to guess that few people have spent considerable time in both types of seats. We'd though we'd give this forum a try, thanks for getting back to us!

I find the fake leather seats to be horribly sweaty and not breathable at all. Cloth all the way.
Adjustable lumbar would be nice, but doesn't make up for how sticky the seats are.

And I hate the cloth seats and don't mind the fake leather in my XLE.

Then again, I'm used to leather seats, and these are a reasonable approximation. I guess if you're used to cloth, the cloth seats would probably be fine for you. There is no universal better. It's personal preference... unlike the info-tainment system where the small screen is near universally preferred to the "upgrade" in the xle and limited. Volume knob, Android auto, possibly a better implementation of Apple carplay.

It's all about priorities. After leather for many years, I bought a cloth seat car just prior to my PP. I didn't think it was that important until I lived with them a few months and grew to dislike them a lot (rough, hot, soaked up spills). Luckily I was able to take advantage of the high used car prices and big PP rebates + tax credit and dumped it for more than I paid. But this is just me.

I was hoping there was a consensus on the seats, but it sounds like it's a personal choice. In a perfect world the dealership would have both and then we could try them in person!

Your point about the infotainment seems more of a consensus, we may end up going with the base model because of that.

We would have gotten the base model if one could have been found. But left with a choice of XLE or Limited we went with Limited. If getting stuck with the silly big screen then might as well get the more useful perks along with it.
But if you can get the LE it's a much better buy.

    Hey Breau,

    Welcome to PriusChat!

I have Softex in my older (previous Gen) Plug In Prius, and I love it, particularly after having cloth in my ‘06. Aside from the seat design being much better and comfortable regardless, I think the Softex material is the best, as it is softer than leather, super easy to clean and low maintenance (no rips, damage or marks, even after 8 years and 200k KM), and unlike some have said, I don’t find them sweaty or uncomfortable, particularly living in Canada like you. ;) I would actually take the Softex over leather, such as my wife’s Leaf. (I find those seats far less comfortable, both material and ergonomically)

I have sat and briefly driven a Prime(test drive), and I recall that the seats were at least equally as good, likely better (though I didn’t spend enough time to form a solid opinion, but we’re certainly not a negative). Though the general consensus is they are superior to the PiP, which are already very good.

Ultimately, it will come down to personal preference whether the seats & tech of the upgrade package are worth the money to you, weighing your own pros & cons. Personally, I would go for the loaded car myself, but I am a tech geek, and don’t mind the large screen, and I like the Softex.

Where are you located in Canada? I would suggest sharing your location, and maybe a friendly member would agree to meet up with you and show you their Prime. ;)

    Cheers. :)
