Those who are either those who passed away or are getting rid of one because they bought a newer one are the good deals. They guy I bought mine from was getting a Tesla. That's why he got rid of it.

Yep...exactly. Reading some of the comments here, I'm not sure why *anyone* would by a high mileage used Gen3. One poster even stated that you can learn how a car was driven from Carfax....please...good comedy there indeed.

Nearly every sentence you wrote contradicts itself bud...In other words, you just proved that "how it was driven" *does*, in fact, matter...lol.

However, I think we can all agree that as a used car buyer, you can discern very little information...even from a carfax report. And like I said, it is probably wise to refrain from purchasing a used Gen3 with very high mileage right now as they are currently VERY overpriced. I think we can all agree on that. (y)

    And ok...see ya.

I'm not saying Carfax is right, but it can tell a story...especially if the owner is lying because they are trying to cover something up. I agree with @farmecologist that it would be wise to avoid buying a high mileage 3rd Gen. Especially in this market.

The work "bud" is condescending. Not appreciated. BTW: What are your automotive credentials? Don't bother replying for me to listen. I'm clicking "ignore" for you

Just talked to previous owner :) S.Kilmer counts highway miles %20 of city miles, everything works in optimum conditions on a highway drive.
Also, I accelerate as quickly as possible and then keep at the desired speed, which I think better than slow-motion :)

Regardless of the previous owner's story, be fully aware of expensive problems that will happen in your ownership. Brake booster system, head gasket or engine replacement, egr maintenance that is expensive and a difficult diy, oil burning from flawed rings, oil leaks (timing chain), probably one of the two electric water pumps. Maybe not all in the next 50k miles but most. Highway miles are no help for the engine related issues. Plus an inverter fail may strand you without warning. Of all these issues, the inverter has no symptoms before it can totally fail. The inverter is the only one currently paid for by Toyota. Go in with knowledge. Don't vastly overpay when $5k-$10k in maintenance is almost guaranteed in your ownership. You are starting at 220,000. Most of these issues are overdue.

    Yup...you get it rj! (y)

If you purchase a Gen3 Prius with very high mileage for a low price with the knowledge that it *will* need expensive repairs, then I say go for it. Problem is....that can't happen in the current used car market...prices are FAR too high and I fear many folks are getting bamboozled into buying at far too high of a price.

BTW - we were able to buy our 2012 Prius v wagon a few years ago for a really great deal...with the knowledge that it needed quite a bit of work. It had 128K miles on it at the time. I basically replaced the front suspension, did a complete brake job including rotors ( brakes were in really rough shape), and did quite a bit of other work ( see link in my signature for the complete saga ). Well..fast forward to now...and guess what? Head Gasket issue now that it has 175k on it..... If I had purchased this vehicle for a high price, I would have been freaking pissed off. However, since I paid so little, it isn't a big deal. (y)

My current fixer.... Prius 4, solar roof, Navigation, and leather seats.
Bought it with blown head gasket, and currently have completely gone through the motor, new struts and springs, water pump, brakes, rotors, and all other required maintenance..

Drove 1,800 miles so far with average fuel efficiency between high 40s and low 50s..
    No sign of oil burning...
It will make someone a great vehicle when I do decide to sell...

Same. Dude bought a Tesla - saw it in the driveway - and seemed kinda neurotic in a good way, like he didn't like deferring maintenance. The Tesla mattered less to me than the regular service records that were in the glove box.

Good luck if you buy it and don't be afraid get your hands dirty with preventative maintenance. Mine's still driving well, knock on wood sticky deteriorating steering wheel buttons... And I'll have a garage again soon so I can DIY instead of bringing it to mechanics who don't give a $%^&*
