Hello, I have a 2019 Prius eco with 100k miles. Have only done oil changes till now. Did some research and decided I'd do some preventative maintenance @ 100k miles.

Wanted to replace the brake fluid, trans fluid and replace all spark plugs. So I called my local toyota dealership and was told to not change the spark plugs till 120k, was also told that the transmission is sealed and the fluid never needs to be replaced (contrary to what I've read on these forums).

I didn't want to push the trans fluid issue with them, should I just find another dealership or mechanic to do the trans fluid replacement? Seeing as I drive almost 50k miles a year.

    Thank you

Plugs are not due, till 120K miles, per the Toyota schedule.

For the transaxle fluid change I won't even bother debating the dealership garble point-by-point: it's a simple drain and fill. Car should be raised and level. Have two replacement washers (for the fill and drain bolts), and 4 quarts/liters of Toyota ATF-WS. Tools: long-handled ratchet wrench, torque wrench, 3" extension (just in case), 10mm Allen Key style "socket" (the fill/drain bolts are socket-head cap screw style), and some method of getting the fluid in. Dead-simple is a funnel with at least 3 foot hose extension (keep OD of hose to 5/8" or less), for fill from above. You'll also obviously need safety stands and floor jack (can do the front on ramps, but should still raise the rear to achieve level). Fill (again, with the car level), till fluid starts coming back out.Repair Manual info attached.

Did they not comment on the brake fluid? Dealership will (or should) not charge much over $100. Or you can DIY. Watch @NutzAboutBolts video on the topic, third gen but very similar I think. Non-Techstream method is what I've done, think it's fine for simple drain/fill. Repair Manual info attached.

The Maintenance Manual which came with the car specifies what needs to be done, when. Scary that it's only had oil changes till now.

    Brakes for starters…

the pat response is “they inspect them every time they rotate the tires”. That visual inspection is not a full brake service. Toyota USA recommends a brake service (vaguely), every 30k miles or tri-yearly, whichever comes first. In the warranty and maintenance booklet.

    Date: Mileage:
1 Inspect sealed transmissions, transfer cases and differentials for signs of leakage. If any leakage from a sealed component is suspected, it is recommended that you have the sealed component inspected by a Toyota dealer. Inspect power steering fluid (if equipped) and brake fluid level/condition. Inspect engine and inverter (if equipped) coolant level/condition/freezing point. Your dealer may recommend services (Dealer-Recommended Maintenance) based on inspection results.
2 Reset the oil replacement reminder light (“MAINT REQD”) or the message “OIL MAINTENANCE REQUIRED” on the multi-information display after maintenance at every 5,000 miles.
3 Perform these service items only if you drive primarily under the conditions indicated.
4 Inspect thickness measurement and disc runout.
5 Refer to “Engine/Inverter Coolant” in the “Explanation of Maintenance Items” section in the back of this guide for more information.
6 Visually check the HV battery cooling intake filter for dirt or dust every 5,000 miles and clean if necessary. Clean every 20,000 miles.
7 Not all vehicles are designed for towing. Refer to your Vehicle Owner’s Manual for details.

I can’t imagine a dealership refusing to do a transmission service if you request it, it a money maker for them and your money. Just ask them to do it.
