I plan on replacing the spark plugs on my 2010 prius. The dealer quoted me about $20 a plug. So my question is do i go with this price or buy replacement ones from oriellys/advanced auto, etc.? The NGK one they have for sale are nearly half the price but i just wanted your guys opinion. I just bought my 2010 with solar roof and am getting pretty poor mpg so i started with the pcv and intake cleaning along with egr tube. Next weekend i plan on starting on the egr cooler and plugs. 2010 prius IV almost 160,000 miles. Thanks in advance

Look on amazon.com and buy the correct NGK or Denso iridium spark plugs for your car. I would expect to pay ~$12 per plug.

Careful of fake plugs. I heard of most of them coming from Ebay and some from Amazon.

Don't buy spark plugs from other than a trusted seller.

There are factories in China producing fake Denso Iridium plugs by the tens of thousands. They are not hard to find (alibaba, etc.).

I avoid third party sellers on Amazon and ebay for this reason. Be especially suspicious of "Toyota OEM" spark plugs from other than Toyota dealer. Why would these be outside the Toyota network at a great price? Why indeed.

here in uk you can buy plugs through eBay but from Toyota dealers only, anything else is simply fake, but the packaging is so good that even Toyota can’t said they are not real. Price is the first alarm that rings the bell. Same for Toyota filters too, a lot fake with very good copy boxes.

I bought my Denso 3444 from RockAuto years ago as part of a bigger shipment which I plan to put in my Prius this spring. The previous ones I got from RockAuto for my Corolla in 2010 were not fake, so I still have some trust in them.

Just order from McGeorge Toyota in Virginia, or another dealer, in this case. Each plug is less than $9. As I learned in another recent thread of this same subject, the current Toyota (Denso) plug is updated (hotter) from the original plug listed in the your manual. It's difficult to find otherwise.

The new gen 3 OEM plug is Denso SC20HR11 per my 2015 owners manual. I guess the old spec was SC16HR11

So the SC16HR11 is the hotter plug? Do you know what year (approx) they made that change? I guess that explains why none of the dealers are stocking the SC20HR11.

The SC20HR11 is discontinued and replaced by SC16HR11 to reduce fouling from oil consumption. You also can get dual tips ixeh20tt similar design as Prius 4th gen and all newer Toyota engines. Denso practically replaces a single Iridium tip with dual tips for all newer Toyota for better efficiency with similar lifespan of 120k miles.

    So...

    1. Are we talking Gen 3, or Gen 2?
    2. Anyone ever connect the dots and say hey increased heat -> increased warped head gasket?

(I'm very loyal to Bosch from many European cars in the household and they list a 96339. Anyone know if this is a good option?)

Yep, ditto on the fakes....lots out there....I got my new Densos from my dealer.

Important tip for the DIYers...those plastic clips you have to remove over the ignition coils can be pretty brittle on older cars and are known to break when squeezing the tab to remove. To avoid a nightmare (replacing the connector), use a small flat-head to lift up the tab on the bottom, not the end where you're supposed to squeeze, and gently work it off....this is the scariest part whenever I do this job. I don't even touch that tab...ever!!

”The term hot/cold is commonly used to describe whether a spark plug heats up easily (hot) or whether it provides resistance to heating up (cold)”. Hot plug for low heat engines (like Prius).

Heat Range - NGK Spark Plugs Australia | Iridium Spark Plugs | Glow Plugs | Oxygen Sensors | Ignition Leads | Ignition Coils : NGK Spark Plugs Australia | Iridium Spark Plugs | Glow Plugs | Oxygen Sensors | Ignition Leads | Ignition Coils

And no, i never buy any Bosch plugs. Never. Only NGK or Denso.

Our last car, an '06 Civic Hybrid, had two plugs per cylinder. Interestingly, when I checked them there was one Denso and one NGK at each cylinder.

Always buy sparkplugs from local shop. Many offer online with coupon orders and pickup locally. Advance autoparts/Carguest, Autozone, ORelley often have online coupons that can be used for sparkplugs.
NAPA has good parts for brake and suspension parts. Online, Rockauto or A1auto have good deals but not easy for warranty. Local shops are better.

Spark plugs are cheaper at your local Toyota dealership than any other options currently..
I just purchased a few for less than $9 each out of the door recently. YMMV..

Denso is what I would use on all Toyota vehicles, and it's been couple of years now since the sc16hr11 (90919-01275) take place of sc20hr11
