Yes, the dealer -- but look around for discount coupons.

In Canada i can get the stock Yuasa battery MUCH cheaper, from SaskBattery.

But I'm not sure that you would get the free towing (in the event of battery failure) if you don't get the battery from the dealer. And do you have to pay for shipping from SaskBattery?

I'm not sure if they ship outside of Canada, or it may require going through some "hoops". But anyway, my experience: free shipping (within Canada), and: we have two forms of sales taxes, GST (Goods and Services Tax) which (IIRC) is 5%, and BC PST ( British Columbia Provincial Sales Tax), which is 7%. If you're not in Saskatchewan they only charge the GST.

One further wrinkle, when I checked their website they didn't list the Yuasa, but I emailed them and the response was that they had it, just the website is not always up to date. This was maybe a year back.

Bottom line: you could email them and see the current situation, and what they could do considering you're in the States.

For reference, this is the stock battery:

    YUASA S46B24R-GS

I did get one of those batteries as you suggested and I need longer bolts and washers right to attach the terminals right? How long should those bolts be?
In addition the bolt that holds down the bracket on the left side needs to be longer. What is a good length for that?
    Thanks

@Tideland Prius Photo uploads not working?

I can't upload photos for some reason?

M6 1.00 X 25 is the bolt size then add washer on both sides. Also a longer than standard 10mm bolt for the hold down bracket.

The 1.00 has something to do with thread pitch; my brain is full though. They’re 6mm dia by 25 mm long (tip to underside of head).

I am still unclear if I should put a vent hole in my battery that looks like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/123818240501
Does this battery have ventilation built in?

The bolts to afix the teminals to the battery worked good Thanks But you were WRONG on the bolt for the hold down bracket 10mm is way to short I had to make a second trip to the hardware store to get a 40 mm. This could be because my mobile battery is taller than you one you installed I should have measured

Apologies, was a busy day... What I meant was a longer than normal bolt that works on a 10mm socket. Alternatively you can use the same bolt that was previously used if you rebend the hold down bracket in a vice so it sits taller. Or the third option is to remove the plate the battery sits on top of so it sits lower. All three ways work, was just in a rush and didn't have the time to write them all out. I'll do better next time!

Toyota's style of hold-down bracket has pretty much zero tolerance to battery height variation. When I put in an Optima Yellow Top, supposedly tailor-made for this application, the height was ever so lightly more, needed a shim washer.

This topic suddenly started to interest me because this morning Prius was completely dead. Did not accept charging from engine compartment terminals, had to connect to battery directly.

it’s 16months old Exide, probably not AGM as far i could see. Car has barely been used during recent weeks. AGM is only way to survive?
