In Pakistan, we have a lot of prius 3rd Gen and Prius-c (Known as Aqua here). They r all JDM imports and they have the dreaded ABS issue. Could be a hefty repair. I myself sold my 2015 with 100k Km and bought a JDM honda vezel

My 2 cents: 2015’s should be less prone to runaway oil consumption, due to piston rings with more outward springiness, but just as prone to head gasket failure, if the EGR cleaning is neglected.

I just checked my 2015 Prius and I am about to hit 69,000 miles. I plan on driving it cross country next month. I hope gas prices go down by then. I am a little worried about all this EGR cleaning talk. I bought the car with 32,000 on it so the EGR has never been cleaned. I believe the recommendation is to clean it at 50,000 miles. This is the first I am reading about the EGR cleaning on a Prius. Had no what it was.

You should be fine, but keep it in mind. Say 100k miles at the latest. FWIW I did ours at 70k kms, don’t regret it. I “may” be a little OCD though.

I hadn't heard a recommendation as low as 50,000 yet, but I guess nothing would surprise me.

Usually these recommendations don't mention that you can just ask the car how well the EGR is flowing; you can ask as often as your obsessive-compulsive leanings demand, and spend the rest of your energy doing things that are fun until the flow test result starts to concern you. It's quick, you don't even get any grime under your nails.

One thing to remember is that the flow test won't catch when the small passages in the intake manifold start to plug up differently (because it's just one test of overall flow). The only way to catch that is to take the manifold off every now and then for a look-see. But that's a much easier job, I'd say 20 minutes maybe if it's not your first time.

I agree with Mendel that you're probably ok at that low mileage. To be certain, you'd have to clean it out, or do the easy check ChapmanF suggests. Mine shows up as good at 135k miles.

This is just a "guess" it would be a good idea. Since most people average
12-13,000 miles a year it would be about 4 years.
I saw somewhere else about 80,000 miles. And 100,000...... I guess it would be depending
on how you drive. If you drive a lot of highway miles, you could probably go further.
Since in theory, the 2015 isn't supposed to burn the oil like the other years, you shouldn't have
the soot like the other years.
You will likely be fine with your trip. And probably should be okay to clean it at 100,000 miles.

You’re in for a treat. There’s a 200 page thread dedicated to egr cleaning. Very helpful if you make coffee first prior, you’ll be up all night reading. The pink nior is kicking in, you’ll have to do a search for ir

I'm a disbeliever of any correlation between EGR plugging up in the head gasket going bad early. I believe the head gasket goes bad because of the heat cycling at the engine. I would argue that you don't have to clean the EGR valve till the check engine light turns on. Just drive the thing and do your oil changes every 5,000 mi

    Your "in" means "and"?
I suspect the truth is somewhere between your opinion and the opposite extreme some prominent people espouse.
