Hello Prius chat - First post here.

I have been using this wonderful chat for a few years to do everything from Oil changes to EGR cleaning to headlight replacement for both of my Gen 3 Prius and am eternally grateful for all of the senior contributors.

On another note - my brother in laws 2006 Gen 2 prius hybrid battery went bad at 250K miles. 3 modules are toast and 2 are marginal. I couldnt even do a dr prius load test since the car wont accelerate. If it was my car, Id probably play whack a mole and just replace modules over the next year but him and his parents don't have the pain tolerance for that. I was between recommending paying 900-1200 for a reconditioned battery pack or buying a new one for anywhere from 2200 - 2600 or newpriusbattery for 1800. Ultimately went with Hometown hybrid reconditioned pack for 995 all in including taxes and shipping with no upfront core charge since I didnt think getting new battery would make sense financially. Being from Madison, WI, I spoke with @ericbecky and he vouched for jessica and hometown hybrid. I will do my best to keep this thread updated with my install process and battery health over time. My goal is for this battery to last 2 years or so. (warranty is 2 years as well).

Thanks again for everyone who contributes to this Forum.

    Cheers.

Alright so got the battery on Thursday and installed it today (Sunday Oct 2, 2022). I ordered Magrid 0 Rated 1000v rubber gloves and some cheap deer skin gloves on amazon to protect my hands and the rubber gloves during removal and install. Bought a little voltameter as well to check voltage before detaching some of the battery wires. Overall there is a ton of great youtube videos, i used the dorman and Palmetto Battery Pros videos and was able to do everything in about 3 hours going super slow and triple checking all my steps. None of the DTC codes came on once i started the car back up and everything is fine so far. You do need to essentially put it in ready mode twice since you disconnected the 12v battery. Voltages on the Dr prius app seemed to be good. uploaded snapshot for reference. Ill do a life expectancy test in a few weeks.

    Cheers
