Did a 200 miles trip to day up through some mountains past Three Forks and Virginia City.
Car went great on the climbs - the power mode a real bonus. :)
    Avg'd 52.1mpg

So on a really cold minus freezing bloody cold day I go to leave work and the car is dead! Drove to work fine that morning.

It's dark and cold and I think the battery is gone. Call AAA for a jump start.
Car fires up right away.... off to O'Reillys for a replacement. $209 later and some help to fit it (no tools on hand and really cold out) the car starts and runs with no codes logged.

Then the wife announces oh yeah I've had to hit the start button twice all week to get it to start! "Shakes head"....

Find out it was -15C with wind chill of -25c at the time.

    Consider getting the block heater.

Fixing a headlight globe issue. The car had poor light on the passengers side.
So we purchase some nicer globes from the local parts store and go to fit them.

Now they dont seem to fit - we got the wrong ones?? Back to the store to get the correct ones only to be told we were attempting to fit the low beams into the high beam slot. Claiming a "rookie mistake" here but very embarrass lol.

So back to fitting the new globes... The drivers side is done in a minute and had the same type of globe already in it. However the passengers side is not so easy to get to. After a few minutes I get the sucker out and its some old dingy grey thing that looks like the element is 90% melted and not putting out much light. That might be the problem and a new globe will fix it.

So after about 20 minutes of this angle and that angle to get the bloody thing it I finally give up and call it in. But nope! As darkness falls we go to test it against the wall only to still have a very dull light! Walk in front of the drivers side and block the light and we have almost none and the passengers side is almost no effect when blocking that one.

So walking back a distance I can see the globe on the passengers side is on an angle of about 60 degrees and cant be mounted correctly.
Turns out you cant fit the globe with the wires connected and you must also insert from the fender side and twist towards the engine, then connect the wire.

Road test at night now shows a great spread of light on low and high beams.

No garage or power near by to do a block heater. :(

Its always fishy when you see such low mileage. A lot of the time it could be that they only did city miles so you have equivalent hours to a vehicle that did more of an EPA cycle with 45% highway 55% city. So it may have the equivalent of 100-120k miles. My mom is a prime example of this, cop cars etc...

Regarding the improperly mounted passenger headlight bulb. You are truly lucky if the crooked bulb didn't melt the plastic mounting area on the back of the headlight assembly.

It has happened many times before, and the only remedy for that is to replace the entire headlight assembly with a new or used one.

Perhaps you were lucky that it was so cold outside that it prevented the melting described above.

Hopefully you took out the air snorkel first. That bulb was my first frustration with a gen3 - now it seems like a walk in the park on a bright sunny day compared to what was to come past 100,000 miles.

The car has a complete service history 1 owner. I have zero doubts about the mileage. :)

Who knows how long it was like it. i suspect the previous owner could not work out how to change it so left the old globe in.
The headlight is starting the "i'm faded" look so might replace it anyway.

Took it out yes - then some skin off - then some unruly words quietly. lol.
The car is very compact and I guess we need to learn the ways and means to get things done.

A 6,5000 mile trip to key west Florida from Montana was completely issue free with a MPG of 46.5 for the trip.
Oh a tire sensor went off but keeps going in and out, so will replace shortly.

Put the snow tires on last week due to the 8" of snow last week. The icy roads are a real challenge on normal road tires.

The little red Prius may have been passed by 5,000 cars/tricks/SUV's - but we made great time at an avg speed of 75MPH.
Man those idiots at 100+ mph drives are insane.

We put LED headlights in for both low and high beam at a cost of $70.00 - great investment.
    Highly recommended.

We stopped for 7 wild animals during our trip as we did many of our 6,500 miles at night passing through 21 states.
