    Haha, here is an interesting story. I have been getting a "P0420" error engine warning lite. (catalytic converter might need replacing).
    Replaced the spark plugs, both O2 sensors, next step was to look for exhaust leaks before just adding new 3rd party catalytic converter.
    Well, I found a reliable muffler guy thru NextDoor website and they did some research on my car (5 minutes) and told me that the engine mounts were old and when the engine was revved, it was creating a leak where the exhaust was connected to the engine.
    This also explains why the light was intermittent, and I could turn it off and it would stay off on long trips: ergo: no engine torgue from fast starts.

    Has anyone tried to change the transmission side (driver side) mount? I cannot find it. I already changed bottom mount and passenger side. This did lessen the vibration, but it is not gone yet. I also have to replace the right cv axle (passenger).

    Here's my experience replacing the center rod aka "lower" motor mount. Because there's almost no instructions I could find for a gen II, here's my cliff notes for center rod replacement:

    1) you'll need to remove all 3 bolts (the chassis side, and the two on the trans side). Just removing the 2 holding the center rod means the powertrain side hits the oil pan. Our friends at Toyota thought of this, and if you remove both powertrain side bolts, you'll have the clearance to remove the bolt without hitting the oil pan.

    2). no need in my case to support the powertrain. Easily removed/replaced without any need for leverage to align bolts.

    3) startup, acceleration from a stop, at speed switching from electric to gas, and especially decelerations are much smoother. It reduced a lot of soft knocking which is really probably due to combination of worn center rob and upper engine mounts, but now I am pretty happy.

    I replaced mine because the guys at the tire shop told to me see how much play it had while I was waiting on service. While it wasn't cracked, it looks like it has shrunk with time. You could spin the wheels and the bottom of the powertrain would bounce around. After replacing things are much better.

    Hello, did you get around to replacing the driver side “transmission” mount? Like you, I couldn’t find anything online for my gen II. I’m thinking it’s under the inverter but I don’t want to go out of my way removing the inverter if i’m not sure.

    I replaced the lower easy mount about 2.5 years back with an aftermarket parts and that thing is already ripped and rocking the Prius back and forth when it starts. The engine shudders when running at a stop. Car has 253k miles and is a rusted northeastern car. This time I would like to replace all the mounts if I knew how to get to them

    Did you have to take out the windshield washer reservoir to remove #4 motor mount? I replaced #1 which was easy. I'm going to try to replace 4. What did you have to take out to get to and replace #4

    I'm trying to remove #4 motor mount. All nuts/bolts are off from above and below. Just the three threaded studs poke out, but they shouldn't hinder removal from what I can tell comparing to the new mount. In answer to previous post, I did remove the windshield washer reservoir to get better access. The mount simply will not come loose. Any ideas?

    I thought the G2 engine has three motor mounts. In any event, are you trying to remove the engine from the vehicle? Why not just lift the engine oil pan area slightly, using a hydraulic floor jack cushioned with a block of wood, to push the engine up from the motor mount?

    I'm not OP but figured I'd share some tips with what worked for me in removing the #4 engine mount.

    I jacked up the oil pan using a wood block and unbolted all the nuts and bolts. Once I unbolted all the nuts and bolts, I lowered the jack and it budged a bit. I then used a long pry bar to gain leverage to further pry up the engine mount and that worked. I've attached a picture. Hopefully this helps someone!
