My 2010 prius has been louder then usual the passed couple of days mostly everytime I accelerate. It's sounds as if there is a hole in my exhaust but I couldn't find one when i checked. There only code I'm picking up through Torque app is P0A80 which is a pending fault that only pops once every week for the passed month. Vehicle is currently at 339044 miles so far and I've been continuously fixing one issue after another but I will be most certainly be taking care of that code within the next 30 days or so. Oil change has been routinely taken care of, spark plugs are only a few months old, routinely add fuel cleaner as recommended, fluids are all where they should be. Anyone have any ideas what this issue could be? I'll attach a picture of the only abnormal reading on Torque that I came across

Your HV battery maybe going bad and the ICE is working harder to compensate for a weak battery.

Have you tried the Dr. Prius app to look at the HVbattery?

Thanks for your assistance Brian. Here is a Pic of the readings I got on the Dr Prius app for battery monitor. Do you feel that it's necessary to to do a full battery test or life expectancy test?

You can get a good idea of the health of your HV battery when you put it under stress, high charging and discharging current. Use the Dr. Pruis app while driving under hard acceleration (discharging) and regenerative braking (charging) and watch the voltage difference readings. The higher the voltage difference value is, the more unhealthy your battery is. Look at the "demo mode" in the app and you see what I am talking about.

If you already paid for the license, I would run the life expectancy test. If you have not paid for for the license, I would not pay for it unless you are very interested in the result of the test. You can get a good idea of the health of you battery without running the test by watching the voltage difference value as described above.

Better start saving up some money for some HV battery work. In all seriousness though...

Good god dude! Those are the highest battery temps i think ive ever seen, especially in the winter. Quit driving that poor car for an afternoon and clean the battery fan and recheck those temps. The cells are just being overheated from what i can see so far. Good temp range for the battery will usually be around cabin temp after you drive around for a couple hours and the cabin temp equalizes better.

Yeah they are equally overheated and the mid cell temp gap is around what it usually is. I bet your battery is fine but check that fan asap.

The first thing I did when i got the code was cleanthe battery fan. I know very little about the batteries but is it by any chance possible that batteries are overheating to try and pick up the slack for the failing batteries?

Brian I ran the app while driving as you mentioned I haven't uploaded it yet because I have to figure out what video format this website accepts. That being said the bars will often light up as yellow and occasionally red. It also looks as if they're bouncing from extreme highs to extreme lows all across the board except for the first and last bar. Hopefully my poor explanation makes atleast a little sense to you, I'll try and upoad again later on tonight.

yup possible. As they die internally the connection lessons and the available charge lessons. so as the car tries to use them and charge them most of the energy turns into heat instead of going to the battery as charge. If you have cleaned it and it's still that high in the winter it's best to take the battery apart and test the cells individually.

Can i test them with a multimeter? If so what setting would I use on it and what readings are considered adequate? I really appreciate you taking the time to explain all of this to me by the way

Actually I just found a YouTube video that explains in pretty good detail how to do it.

At 300k miles. You’ll need additives to make it easier for your engine. Try this additives from BG. https://a.co/d/3nLpzlJ

Those temps are fine and will show in red when its too hot and you will hear the fan on high trying to cool it down.

Just keep driving it until you get another code to show you which modules are bad.

No need to take it all apart yet and spend money when you do not need to.

I second some aditives like fuel cleaners

The engine will run longer than normal to keep the engine temp as needed in the winter.
