    Old, for ref, I think.

195/60R17 shows OD 26.2”, and 295/50R19 is 26.7”, on this calculator:

That's the specs of the Gen 4's 15" tyres.

Yeah try and find those sizes on TireRack, especially the 19”. Skinny low profile, whoda thunk it.

The 19" has more sidewall than the 215/45R17 tyres on the Gen 4 Touring.

The 17" has slightly less sidewall than the 195/65R15 of the Gen 3/4 and almost the same (very slightly more) than the Gen 2's 185/65R15

I like page that lets you compare two sized tires
    Tire Size Comparison

it also lets you know how much the different size will throw off the speedo.

The sidewall of these tires are around 4 inches. The diameter is 2 inches larger than the tires on the gen4. The Prius is riding on Camry sized wheels and tires, not Corolla's.

Somewhat related question. What size tires does the 2023 Camry get? The specs page on the Toyota site only lists wheels.

@bhtooefr had a good explanation in #15 that the volume of air didn't change much either with the new tires. At least we don't have 2 different sizes like on the i3. Still they'll be hard to find on TireRack until the car starts showing up.

But we could likely fit i3 tires to the new Prius rims.
If you don't mind that they probably cost more.

    2023 Prius
195/60R17 (probably not - maybe with the wheel if the bolt pattern is the same)
    195/50R19

Maybe but the i3 tire width might not be wide enough. Until the new Prius sizes become widely available they might be almost as expensive.

Only looked at the 175 on the tire calculator site. The overall diameter is larger by 0.6in, but the 19in Prius combo is 0.3in smaller than the 17in. The wheel width is a consideration, but there is literally flexibility in the tire to adapt to different wheel widths. The new Prius wheel very likely is a width for those tires; they aren't the Camry size wheels simply because of weight. Until we get the wheel specs, the safe bet is the 175 tire width will fit closer than the 225 width that is the next closest as an option on the calculator site.
    Tire Size Calculator

I didn't look at the 155 as the site listed it as a spare tire size. I have heard of i3 owners going with one of the tire sizes at each corner. I've swapped Sable wheels with Lincoln Continental ones while keeping the Sable sized tires.

The 175 tires are $250 to $240 each. If the 195s are that much, makes the calculation for the 175 experiment promising.

Huh, I honestly didn't know you could put different width tires on the same rim. I thought the only thing you could fudge was the aspect ratio. That opens things up for winter tires where I'd prefer a wider tire for grip anyway. The magic of google says to keep the width within 20mm of standard and the diameter/circumference within 3%, so that means I can consider several new options even if my preferred tire makers don't do anything. Thanks.

    215/50R19 - borderline width(+20mm), borderline diameter(+3%), can keep 19" look
    - Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 EV (Winter Studless for hybrid/electric)
    - Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 EV (Winter Studded for hybrid/electric)

    215/55R17 - borderline width(+20mm), ok diameter(-1.5%)
    - Michelin Cross Climate 2 (All-Weather)
    - Nokian WRG4 (All-Weather)
    - Hankook Kinergy 4S2 (All-Weather)
    - Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 (Winter Studless)
    - Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 (Winter Studded)

    205/55R17 - ok width(+10mm), borderline diameter(-3%)
    - Michelin Cross Climate 2 (All-Weather)
    - Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 (Winter Studless)
    - Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 (Winter Studded)

Nothing perfect, but better than no options at all unless/until the 195/50R19 and 195/60R17 sizes are available in the States. Thankfully I'm still a minimum of 11 months away from dealing with this problem. :)

    Would a 15” rim work? If that’s out: 16”?

Camry rims may be compatible? Or RAV4?

Absolutely. In my case, I'm just trying to stick to standard Prius rims to keep the stock look. Unless the 17" wheels are ugly, in which case all bets are off. lol

Something I read said the 17” rims had wheel covers. Maybe sim appearance to 3rd/4th gen 15”? Time will tell.

That link would give a list of potential size replacements to the entered tire size, including for different size rims.

Minimum rim diameter is going to come down to the brake rotor size.

The Camry Rav4 rims depend on the bolt pattern and space in the wheel well. They will likely be wider than the stock Prius, and likely heavier. The new Prius likely will also have actual wheel bolts; Toyota moved to them in the Crown in addition to the bZ. Not sure how that works for wheel swaps.

Yes you can. Generally within 20mm of tire within the same rim.

You actually want a narrower tyre for winter, not wider. You want a wider tyre for summer.

Ahh, that was counter intuitive for me, but now I see. You want to lower the contact area to increase pressure to push the tire into the snow/ice.

So now I can now put the 175/65R17 Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 and 10 to the top of my lists. Thanks. ;)

I had to look it up to be sure. Range expectations for the next plug-in Prius has been an interesting topic. With all the research I do and the history I have, understanding Toyota's priorities has become an easy pattern to recognize & follow. In fact, back on August 16, 2019 my prediction was stated this way: "For gen-1 Prius PHV, that target was 20 km. For gen-2 Prius PHV, that target was 40 km. For gen-3 Prius PHV... knowing that affordable & reliable has been higher priorities than range... would put it at 60 km." Turns out, that is indeed what Toyota targeted for this upcoming new Prius Prime. Nailed it!
