I'm long time lurker. I think I've only posted just once.

Anyway... my 2015 gen 3 Prius is close to 160k miles.

I do my all own maintenance, except for tires. I have been working on cars since 1991.

Aside from typical oil changes, MAF sensor cleaning, etc. I've done the thermostat, water pump, pcv valve, cleaned the air intake and EGR pipe (which were not that dirty at all).

Now... my right front fan is out. Which I verified, by putting the car into maintenance mode.

I pulled the air box out to get a look at the fan assembly. I'm stumped on how to get this thing out. I just wanted to check the fan, before checking the relay.

    Any help would be great!

The Repair Manual (more info) procedure says to remove the radiator assembly first, after which you can remove the fan, no. 2 fan, no. 2 cooling fan motor, and cooling fan motor.

Perhaps in part because this would be so much work, the manual also has a 23-step diagnostic procedure for the cooling fan circuit and an on-vehicle inspection procedure for the cooling fan motors, so before replacing one, you could be sure it’s not a fuse, relay, or wiring problem.

Thanks, the fan feels ok. I'll move on to the relay.

What happens to the fan when you turn on the air conditioner?

Maybe more like 1%. I'm on a few other forums, so I lose track. They're all different. : )

If I had one I sure would. I've said all kinds of intemperate things around those relays.

I just ordered a pair. It's around $10 with free shipping, thanks to walmart. : )

I really don't want to break any relays.

Breaker wrench is good too, basically a ratchet wrench with extra long handle. Preferably with swivel head. That's my goto as often as not; makes things a lot easier.
