It looks like Greenbean has a lifetime warranty for an extra $150, and Greentec only has a 4 year warranty, does anyone know which company is better? Thanks.

it's hit or miss with both companies. i'd go with the one that you feel will still be in business when you need warranty coverage

Thanks, Bisco. I understand that I pay for labor when I need repairs under the warranty. I will have to figure out which company has better labor. I might have to go with a refurbished battery, I am willing to try.

In my experience Greentec rebuilds a pack better than GreanBean, but not by much... With all rebuilt packs you're looking at a 3 year lifespan and Green Bean seems to be more willing swap packs with you via an auto parts store, whereas GreenTec is going to require you to get a certified mechanic to "prove" your pack is bad and then their own people will show up to swap it out, which I think there is a charge for? As in Green Bean is more DIY friendly than GreenTec.

But if you spend a little bit more on brand new or Nexcell, the problem is solved for a decade or longer and you can put that pack in your future Prius as well as your existing one. So it's a money saver in the long run...

And if you buy Nexcell and use my affiliate link to purchase, I'll give you unlimited lifetime tech support: https://projectlithium.com/?ref=9qLPw

Anybody who's paying the super high prices like $1,500 for a remanufactured battery pack should get online and talk to the guy in Virginia what is his name got the funny little prii cars painted . I think he's called the hybrid doctor in South American guy really nice guy He had an add online where he would send you a rack with blasted bus bars new nuts all assembled ready for you to drop it in your case and go $700 My God that seems like a very reasonable thing versus 1499 for somebody to install the five bolts that hold it in but hey that's just me. So I rode up to Virginia from North Carolina in my '09 to pick up a battery that he did on his machinery in the shop for the 13 3 hours each way didn't bother me a bit this was before the gas prices got real silly and the battery still going strong even in the winter here in North Carolina and he was a really good guy and the guys in the shop they don't speak a lot of English but they're really seemingly very good guys and they do well with hand signals and broken English had a good time while we visited up there The owner was out in Las Vegas at an EV show

How many miles on the vehicle, and can you attempt a DIY self install?

Hi PriusCamper. It looks like they are in Ca, I think shipping to Florida would be really expensive. I sent them an email. This is a totally new battery? I see it has a two year warranty.

Hi SFO, I have 160k miles on the car now. I probably wouldn't DIY unless it was easy. What would you recommend?

Watch some of the HV battery R+R videos; though the 10+ min disassembly video is a bit much, and they don't clean up the HV battery fan.

What might be wrong with the existing HV battery, and do you have any OBD2 codes that are worth posting?

Thanks SFO, I checked Youtube, what are R+R videos? I am not technical with cars, and I don't have the OBD2 codes, my dealership just told that I needed a new battery. I am likely just going to go with Greentec. Question, do you know if inverters always go out before 200k or is it just a possibility? Thanks.

how much did the dealer quote you for a battery?

inverters rarely go out on gen 2, regardless of miles

In this scenario, R+R is remove and replace, though it could mean something else as well : https://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/R%26R
Did you pay the dealership for the diagnosis?
A new OEM (or aftermarket) battery would likely be a better choice, and cost about the same. How long do you plan or keeping the vehicle?

Yes, I paid the dealership $100 for an inspection. I would like to keep the vehicle for about 5 more years. I would like an OEM battery, how can it be done at about the same price as a refurbished battery?

Thanks, bisco, that's really helpful. I was just about to ask about inverters, I will do a little research. The dealership told me it could be an issue, I hope they are wrong.

The longest you could hope for from a refurbished battery is 3 years. Some do not even make 6 months. Two questions for you to consider: A) do you really want to be dealing with this again, maybe twice more? B) How lucky do you feel?

Hi dolj, Greentec has a 4 year warranty and GreenBean has a lifetime warranty for a little extra, am I missing something?

how much are green tec and green bean?

you can call around dealers, the batteries are price competitive, as well as labor.

if you could find a mech to install it, a new oem might not be too bad.

It depends on A) whether you can get warranty support and the hoops they make you jump through to get the support; and B) your tolerance for having your car off the road for a day to several days at the most inconvenient time (Murphy's Law) possible. May not be so much of a problem if you have access to another car for the duration.
