My wife lost her fob and we'd like to replace it. It seems from the posts here that's a dealer task rather than a DIY or locksmith job -- correct? What can we expect to pay in central Texas?

I think the cheapest you might get is one of those mobile locksmiths that does keys. Theres a few in my area and they go to different areas. While I never got a fob for a prius, I did get one for a CRV and ended up being a $200 job even with getting a brand new key off ebay for the car OEM for $45. Good luck.

If you still have one key, you will need to buy another unprogrammed key, use Techstream to remove the lost key registered to the ECU and add the new key. A on line dealer can sell you a new key at a discount. Dealers are allowed to have discounted on line sales sites that allow shipping to the buyer or local pickup to defray the cost of shipping.
