    Hi Guys,

I have a 2013 Prius with 200k+ miles and I'm looking to get the EGR system cleaned. I live in a condo and there is no way to do it on property. I looked at the thread with professional services but didn't find one in the area. Does anybody know of a shop that will do it in Northern Virginia. I called a couple of local shops and nobody knew what I was talking about...they suggested the Fuel Induction service which I've read doesn't do what I need.

    Thanks.
    Raj.

It's tough, nobody wants to know. What's your competency level; have you done oil changes, for example? Do you have tools? Have a look at the first two links in my signature; the first in particular lists tools needed.

Know anyone with a garage, carport, driveway? If the latter, for sure leave it for nicer weather.

I figured you'd be the first to respond, Mendel...thanks for the comment.

My competency level is not very good since I live in a condo. I have changed engine oil/tires a few times years ago but I gave it all up since it was tough to find a place to do diy maintenance. If I can't find a professional place, I guess I'll watch the NutzAboutBoltz videos until I feel I got the hang of it.

    Thanks again.
    Raj

You won’t need a lot. If you bring your own floor jack (not strictly necessary, but there’s a few instances it might help), and tools, lights, cleaners, rags, a pan for cleaning. A second vehicle might prove invaluable, because you can never think of everything.

    Criteria I’d be looking for:

    warm, dry, secure
    Decent lighting
Electrical outlets (bring a power bar and extension cords)
Utility sink with hot/cold water (for cooler soaks)
Reasonable rates, it can drag on.

even just some home owner with a relatively clear garage, and access to their laundry room sink, and bathroom (hey, we all gotta go). Not sure how you’d look for that, kinda Air BNB for car maintenance. Craigs List?

Look through the tool list mentioned in first link in my signature. Also, one thing (not mentioned) that proved very handy for me, was a rubber stopper, for the smaller end of the cooler. If you’re using water-soluble chemistry (oxi-clean solution in my case) on the cooler, it takes very little if you cork one end, fill it, prop upright in corner of laundry sink. Specs of the one I got, perfect fit.

    and link, hopefully displays:

^ Hey, it works, IF you type some text, and use the hyper link function on Priuschat editor, paste the Amazon page address:

^ @Georgina Rudkus etal Amazon linkers, this works.

If you'll be working in a rented space, you can save a lot of expensive time by acquiring a used cooler and cleaning it out in advance. Removing and cleaning out the manifold is much less time-intensive than the cooler, and sometimes more important.
