    The left is the bad battery with the cover off. The right is the new battery with the cover off. transfer ECU, main relays, and other electrical stuff. If i remember correctly it’s the two bolts at the main relays, 1 bolt for a tape type thing (maybe grounding?), and then 3 or 4 bolts to transfer everything at once. That’s if you’ve got the proper extensions/sockets. i had to remove ECU and a couple things to gain access to the bolts, but either way it’s pretty straightforward to setup the new battery how the old battery was. Be prepared for no youtube videos tho!

    As with all things cars, left and right is as sitting in the driver's seat looking forwards. Just the same as your left and right arm does not change sides when someone is standing in front of you looking towards you.

    @nancytheprius

    If you look at your old battery, there is a plastic piece that attaches to the upper clamp bars next to the top of the ecu. (where the brown tape is on the new battery) Please tell us you swapped that piece over to the new battery!!!! If not, the cooling air from the fan is going to blow OVER the modules and out the ecu section instead of down between the modules, and will very very likely result in temperature control problems for your battery.

    If you missed this and need one, let me know. I'd be happy to send one to you. I have dozens laying around in a tote in the shop.

    Also, on a separate note, it's not necessary to swap the rubber vent tubes. Toyota stopped using the tubes around 2013 or so. The Gen 4 modules don't even have the relief valve, although the plastic housing for it is still present on the module. If you look down inside that opening, you should be able to see there is no "hole" at the bottom for the relief.

    And another thing, lol. You have a lot of faith in that table!! Thats about 150 pounds of battery sitting in the middle!! Beautiful looking batteries tho!! Hope it works great again for the next 15 years!

    Just wanna double check that you’re referring to the black plastic piece with a little indent for the temperature sensor wiring to pass? If so, i did transfer that piece later on in the process. I had no idea what it was for, and I appreciate the offer for an extra one!

    i did transfer the ventilation tubes as well, but good to know they aren’t needed for the future!

    Yes. That's exactly what I was referring to! Glad to hear that you caught it.

    Duly noted about both the plastic and the no longer needed vent tubes. Thank you all for the great information.

    NiMH batteries with no vent????

    Do they go boom when the pressure gets too high?

    Been 9 years since Toyota stopped using vent tubes and vents? Anybody have modules go boom in the last 9 years?

    The actual relief valve is still present on all Gen 3 modules, even though the tubes went away. Gen 4s are the modules where the reliefs went away. I'm sure I have some photos posted in the forum somewhere.

    16 years on the original! I'll be very happy if my 2015 battery lasts until 2031
