If you paid for a diagnostic, then you should've received a printout with the DTCs listed (example may include P0A80, P3000, P3012). Without knowing the OBD2 codes, it would be hard to recommend a new HV battery. Check the paperwork again, or ask for a refund.
As mentioned, refurbished (used) batteries aren't always up to the task, and may leave you stranded when you least expect it, then you're at the mercy of the supplier to make good on the warranty. What is the current vehicle mileage, and what has bee maintenance done?
Call around to the various dealers within driving/towing distance, get installed pricing, then call the parts department for an OTC part quote.

Did you watch the video for a DIY installation?

Maybe one of the local members could install it for you?

Thanks, bisco, I will look into this, I just want to save some time. Thanks for telling me about the Gen 2 inverters, that makes me feel better.

for reference, i dealt with hybrid battery replacement last week. the part itself was 1950 from toyota dealer and labor was quoted at 800 by them. Call around, because 3500 is pricey. I ended up installing it myself and returning the core, which was a reasonable process too and saved me 800!

They say they will fix the battery in 1 day if it goes out, I will ask them how often it ends up being more.

Thanks! Was it hard to find a battery for $1950? Did you have to wait to get it?

no it wasn’t hard. i called 4 dealers. two were 1950, one 2047, and then the other 2500. The one that was 2500 price matched the 1950 and i went with them. I ordered on black friday over the phone, went to the dealer to pay up front, and it arrived at the dealer on Monday

Personally, I don't "want" any warranty. I want a part that performs as the factory part did. The original battery pack rarely has any problems for over 10 years. Many "refurbished" (ie- used) packs have problems after a couple years (or months or weeks).

Thanks. I am still trying to figure this out. I should be able to get warranty support, but I am worried about the cost of labor from either company.

My friend went with GreenBean a few years ago for his Highlander. The battery is still going strong. No issues. When he went with GreenBean it was a lifetime warranty. I think if they need to replace the battery there is a $50 trip charge.

how tough was it to install yourself and how long did it take? I might go this route. Thanks.

I got a friend to help me remove the original battery, take it apart, and install the NEXcell modules. IIRC it took us around 4 hours, having never R&Red a Prius battery before.

Found a video on YouTube showing how to remove the battery without removing the interior side panels. Just the rear seat, everything in the bottom of the cargo area, and getting the bottoms of the side panels loose to access a couple of bolts.

There's a video on YouTube of a guy doing a battery swap in 15 minutes but he's done a lot of them and judging by the scratches all over the top of the bumper and other areas he's focused more on speed VS being careful.

Before doing the NEXcell swap, MPG was down in the low 30's. With NEXcell it went back up to the mid 40's. I assume dropping 40 pounds of battery weight helped a bit.

Or you could with the NEXcell upgrade keep 40 pounds of emergency gear in the car all the time and have it weigh and ride the same as with the original battery. Or if you're car camping in it, carry 40 pounds more stuff without overloading the suspension.

If you see this reply SFO, here is my predicament: my dealership wants to offer me $750 for my 2007 Prius with 160K on it because the battery is out. He said the car is worth $3000 and the battery is $3000 so I should just sell it. Do you think this makes sense? I could perhaps install a new battery myself. Thanks.

Greentec is $2250 for a 4 year warranty, and GreenBean is about $2000 for a lifetime warranty, I am pretty sure I will just go with a new battery.

How much is a new NiMH battery VS NexCell at $2220? https://projectlithium.com/products/prius-lithium-replacement-pack

Even assuming the NexCell upgrade doesn't achieve better MPG via its different chemistry and holding more *usable* charge, there is the advantage of it weighing 40 pounds less. Just removing 40 pounds of dead weight ought to improve efficiency some. Plus it comes with a "Lithium Inside" decal to put on the car.

That seems to be a thought in some circles, but I haven't found that to be true. in fact, I've had some of my best fuel economy figures loaded up with 3 adults and luggage on vacation.

In daily life, I can end up with a significant amount of superfluous odds and ends that would easily add up to more than 20 kg (40 lbs) and notice no significant change in fuel economy with it in or out of the car.

    YMMV.

if you think you could attempt to replace it yourself, you've jumped the biggest hurdle.

dealers low ball so they can put in a new battery and make a quick few thousand dollars profit

What OBD2 codes do you have that point towards the battery being out?
Nope, this person/dealer is trying to scam the vehicle from you. Did you actually pay the dealership for that "battery is out" diagnostic?

    Get this

Bluetooth scan tool. It's low cost but (unless the manufacturer has changed it) it can access all the Prius hybrid system modules using the Dr Prius app. Pay for the full version of the app and use it to test the battery.

I did pay the dealership for an inspection, I can't retrieve the codes right now from my phone. This is what I am considering right now: some people say that refurbished batteries don't go out that often (people that sell them), my only issue that is with a new battery I am only getting a two year warranty. I talked to Autobeyours, like you recommended, and I might go that route.
