OK, I know some will think that the Prius is High Tech and the interior dash scheme should not be messed with (except maybe changing to carbon-fiber look), but me and my wife like the look of the wood trim we've had in past cars. I decided to install the BD Trims Burl Wood dash kit. We think it looks great.

Again, this is to our taste. Some may not like it, or even object strongly. (save your bashing, we like it)

Some may like it and feel as we do that it adds to the appeal of the interior. (thank you for you compliments)

In either case, we are happy with our decision.

if you detect a note of defensiveness, I am just anticipating the negative feedback that I know will be coming from of few who just can't help themselves.

I like it over the silvery plastic bits, some of the bigger pieces I might have left off, but that's just me. Definitely less blah than the stock dash, so enjoy the car, and don't worry about other's opinions so much.

It's not that I'm worried about other's opinions at all.

There are actually pieces that we did leave off. We wen t back and forth about the dash and glove box, then decided to go for it.

    We like it.

It looks great. I too have been looking at other peoples projects to get a better idea of which peices are right and which are too much. It all boils down to personal taste no matter which way you look at it anyway.

I purchased a kit from Automotive Concepts in Dark Zebra Wood that I am waiting on a little warmer weather to install. The finish is beautiful. But it took several weeks to fabricate and ship, so by the time I got over procrastinating and placed the order, the temperature dropped too low for a safe install. On the bright side, I may now have several months to peruse the work of others before tackling my own!

It was in the 60's when I did the install. Following their directions, I had the defroster on and placed each piece on the vent for about 1 minute to soften it. Worked like a charm.
    Things to be aware of:
    - on opening parts (cd door under radio, sunglasses holder), make sure the doors will still open easily. don't place the trim too close to the edge.
    - line up the button openings as you place each part

Definitely like the door trim and center of the dash; not sure about the rest.

I especially like the cup holders. That hard, smokey plastic that comes with the car is one piece of interior finish which I don't like at all. Scratches easily and always looks bad with fingerprints and dust.

Hey, it looks good in the pics. If you're happy thats what matters. I've thought about it but don't know how it would hold up in the Florida summer heat. Maybe after I get the windows tinted.

    Enjoy it.

I was wondering about that as well. Is this the same material that most car come with from dealers? I had a CTS with wood trim, and it held up fine in Orlando. I wonder if this is as durable as what I had....... Did you use the activator that comes with those kits? I heard someone say not to use that, because it will mess the interior underneath if you ever would want to take it off. But then again, why would you ever want to take it off?

I was quite suprised at the quality of the product. It is not a thin laminate. It looks like wood that has many layers of clear polyurethane on it. Definetly a factory like finish - if not better!
I didn't use the activator (4 tubes were encluded). I tried to reposition one piece after I had it down and couldn't even lift a corner. Syclone has seen it and thinks it is better quality than his wife's Mercedes.
I don't think there would be any problem in Florida sun. If anything, it would probably cause a tighter bond as the adhesive warms up.

 Excellent looking dash....but I didn't see the large upper dash covers (that would be the ones around the start switch and on the dash opposite it) in the bd kit. Are those in another dash kit upgrade???

Dash Trims is the ebay store I bought it from. In the store search type PRIUS. The one listed is actually $5 cheaper than the one I bought. (Buy it Now is 149.95)
Auction is the item I bought. You can choose from a variety of wood finishes. They don't show up in the photos, but the kit includes trim rings for around the defroster air vents, power button and around the 3 buttons on the lower left of the dash (EV Button, etc). I didn't put on the lower glove box cover and a few smaller pieces.

I want to paint all the brushed silver peices in the interior to match the Barcelona Red exterior. Now that would be hot with two T's
