Can I put Gen 2 HV batt modules in Gen 3 battery?

    Looks like I *might* have a failing Gen 3 battery. Just starting to consider options.
    I have a Gen 2 HV batt that I'm convinced is good.
    Are the modules transferrable between them?
    I already know the full Gen 3 batt is itself somehow different from Gen 2 (mount points and some other things I don't remember).

    Yep they're the same look the same stack the same sit side by side the same without looking at serial numbers and doing a lot of hoo ha you really can't even tell what they came out of unless you have the original case in front of you that's the clue so yes they fit they swap out everything is pretty much the same

    The Gen 2's generally the modules have a little tit on the top of them for the breather or vent tube you could mix and match sales that have vent tubes and some that don't and just leave the vent tube off some might recommend against this I've done it nothing's happened so I'll say it works or you can round up cells that either have the vent tube titty or don't either way

    Do you think that if I replace ALL the modules of the failing Gen 3 batt with modules from the Gen 2, that this will solve the P0A80 code (that's the code I'm getting).

    I'm convinced your Gen 3 battery is just fine.
    That doesn't mean it IS fine. (y)

    What trouble shooting things did you do to come to those conclusions that one was bad
    and the other was good?

    Find out why you got the code. Maybe just a lot of resistance on the connectors???

    Or, just switch modules and continue on. :whistle:

    Check the bus bars and all the nuts for frosting and/or heavy frosting and corrosion If you have that just by lifting up the case while it's sitting in the car you need to start there unplug the orange plug undo all the bus bars and nuts If you don't have an extra set then you throw those in the kids rock tumbler with the proper media let it tumble for about an hour and they'll come out looking brand new then make sure all the battery screw terminals are whistle clean and reassemble all that mess I even go a step further and spray all that stuff off after it's all connected tightened and not going to be touched with CRC's branded battery terminal spray it's a light red oily substance I give it two very light coats close it up and see what I got. I would do this before I started a bunch of modules swapping.

    P.S. I forgot to add.... From what has been said on Prius Chat, the modules are interchangable.
    I don't remember if the 3rd gen had 2 or 4 more than the 2nd gen or is they are of high capacity.

    3 reasons I think it could be bad:
    1. Dr. Prius is showing the "V shaped pattern" that this guy talks about at 4:36:
    . Apparently the middle modules fail first for some reason.
    2. He says in the same video (14:00) that if the temp diff between the temps of the batt is > 2 degrees, then failure is suspected (bad modules are overheating).
    3. The car had a historical P0A80 and now has had two P0A80's in the last 50 km.

    So I think these symptoms preclude just a corrosion issue, although I will check that first!

    I'm really learning by the hour what's going on. Lots to learn about these systems!

    I will try this! Got a place that sells nuts for pennies, but I'm not sure what other hardware could be corroded.
    Great idea about kid's rock tumbler! I think I'll use that for many other projects!
