Wow - I just bought a 2007 Prius Touring and if this thread is true, it will save me big bucks. I'm waiting to hear from Troy, though, because it seems almost too good.

I was quoted a "MSRP" price on the Prius 7/100,000 warranty as $2475, which I negotiated down to $2000. I also picked up the maintenance plan for $1000 vs the quoted price of $1889 or thereabouts. I was pretty happy with my $1300 negotiating until I saw this....but of course I can change my mind and get a refund.

Is the warranty I just bought at a supposed "discount price" of $2000 really available for $990?

The MSRP on the warranty that you bought at a supposedly discounted price is $1,850. The MSRP for the prepaid maintenance is $1,355 for the Premium plan and $710 for the Standard.

As many of us have attested here numerous times is the past, Troy sells the Real McCoy from Toyota at exceptional prices.

The voice of another very pleased customer here.

I originally purchased the 7/75,000 Platinum Extended Warranty from my dealer who said it was a great price. It wasn't. Or maybe it was but it definitely wasn't as good as here on PriusChat.

I called Toyota & they told me how to cancel the policy that I had purchased & that it would cost $25 to do so. Much to my pleasant surprise, my money (minus the $25) was refunded within a couple of weeks at which point I proceeded to purchase the policy from Troy (Toyota of Greenfield).

The other day I received the very same papers from Toyota for a 7/75,000 policy that I had originally purchased from my dealer but for a whole lot less. Plus the process was quick & easy.

If you want the Platinum Extended Warranty, as far as I can tell, Troy's price can't be beat.

PriusChat is proud to announce that for a price of $990, you can purchase the Toyota Extra Care Platinum warranty which will cover your car for a period of 7 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

    $875 for the 4 year/ 55,000 mile Premium Plan. MSRP $1350.

    Danny - Question
Is this 7 years / 100,000 more miles at the time of purchase of extended warranty or time of Vehicle purchase new? I have almost 30,000 miles in a year and half on my 05, Bought 05/05/05. Opps, just found Troy's email will ask him via that . Thanks Rod

Has anyone had any trouble getting a response from WarrentyShack?
I have filled out the form three times and no one from the site has contacted me.
Is there another way to get a quote?

    Gallken,

Please check your spam folders, I sent replies to each of your inquiries (on 8/11, 10/30, and 11/1). I never received any kind of bounce back, so I assumed you had received them. The word "Warranty" seems to be a trigger for a lot of filters.

Oh...and if anyone else ever has a problem getting a response, you can always pm me here on PriusChat or call me on the phone. If calling, just make sure and mention PriusChat.

OK, I bought the platinum for $2175 when I bought the car the beginning of this week. I'm going back to the dealer today and asking for a refund because I am cancelling the contract.

I will drive out to greenfield to see Troy, and maybe take him to dinner or a drink when I get it from him.

    Thanks, Danny!

    Thanks, Troy!

Now, why aren't mudguards sold here in the northeast? I have to go to Deland, FL if I want them (or buy them off ebay).

    ;-)

I took delivery of my 2006 Prius in July, and bought the extended warranty (7/100K, 0 deducible) for $1600. It originally was $2400! Then I found out about the PriusChat deal from Troy. I obviously cancelled the dealer contract, which was credited to my finance company, and bought the $990 policy. This is a real Toyota policy, good anywhere, not the aftermarket one the dealer sold me. For the piece of mind it offers, it's well worth the price.

I am in the same situation and have the same concerns. I too was told that service agreements written outside of California would not be accepted by California dealers. True or bull?

Similar situation. Talk to Troy...I'm guessing outside of Ca would be fine but check with Troy. I also added the origianal $2400 fee for exended when I purchased until post-Troy and I cancelled it. Unfortunately it is part of the loan and I'll be paying on that for some time. Wish I knew ahead of time.

I read on Consumer Reports that they advise against Extended Warranties except for two products, Projections TVs cause they break frequently and repairs are too costly and the other is MacIntosh PC because they only come with a 30-day warranty. From my experience 30 days is fine. (Now a PC man. Don't ask me why)

From my point of view and at Troy's price the peice of mind is worth it.

Installed after market GPS. See another post for details. I love it

That sounds like a scheme for california dealers to not have to compete with others outside of the state... like they want to corner the market?

So your trapped?.. If you live in California and your job calls you away to NewYork... or "Greece" for that matter... the World renowned Toyota will not honor your service contract?

That sure doesn't sound like a contract from Toyota.. but from the California dealers that link to Toyota?

I wouldn't buy something that binds you so, unless you get what you pay for and they want to let you have it for 50.00 bucks! LOL! .... ( 1000.00 "From Troy"/50states )

I guess the real question is "who has a "contract" with who?"

I'm sure they will pull that off "if" they can get away with it.. but I seriously doubt that is any of Toyota's doings!

    Bull....

Otherwise anyone from outside of California would have to be warned that their coverage was no good while vacationing in that state. Likewise with anyone moving to California from another state.

The Toyota Financial service contracts are generated and sent directly from their headquarters no matter what dealer or from which state it's purchased.

Some states have various state laws that apply to service agreements (Extended Warranties), usually pertaining to your refund rights...I never seen any that have anything to do with the actual coverage of the policy. Anyway, contracts purchased in states in which those state laws force the wording of the contract to vary from Toyota's standard policy have that states name listed at the top.

    Troy

    Oh....and Windstrings:

The Toyota Extra Care plans are only good in the U.S. and Canada, you wouldn't be able to get coverage if you shipped the car to Greece.

The contract is between the purchaser and the Administrator, which is TMIS (Toyota Motor Insurance Services, Inc.)

With the factory extended warranty can I still do some of the service work myself and just keep the receipts?

This is my first post. I may have missed this discussion already.

Since I'm also looking into getting an extended warranty, I did some research. The CA Dept. of Insurance website states that a company selling extended service contracts/warranties over the Internet violates California law. Only car dealers can sell manufacturer warranties. See link below:

    http://www.insurance.ca.gov/0100-consumers...-agreements.cfm

If this is so, wouldn't buying the warranty offered by Priuschat through Warrantyshack.com considered illegal, if you're a CA resident? Would it void the purchased contract? Or is the company - such as warrantyshack.com - at fault, and not the purchaser?

The Dept. recommends getting Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI) instead, as recommended in the another forum/discussion/post.

Anyone have any insight into this?

This has been discussed before...PriusChat/WarrantyShack aren't actually selling them, they just refer people to us. The plans are actually being purchased from a Toyota dealership. And technically they're not being sold on the internet. We don't have website on which they can be ordered, everything is done via phone, fax, and mail.
