Finally have my new vehicle, but I went to get new tires put on Triple Thread, and they broke the tire pressure monitor on one of the tires!

Size 195 was the triple thread...so he said that he will only put size 185 tires on the vehicle and i ended up getting the comfort tread size 185...
he will replace the monitor tomorrow morning(getting part direct from Toyota)

Is there a secret to putting larger tires on the Prius without breaking the pressure monitors?

He even mentioned that they would have to be extra careful putting them on because of the monitors, and he heard told his techs as well(I was dealing with the store mgr)

    Thanks.

According to what I've read here - no TPMS problems for me yet - each monitor must be registered with the car's ECU. So, a simple replacement by the tire store may not be the end of it. Search the forum or call your dealer for more info.

Yeah, I saw that it has to be registered with the ECU. Can that only be done by the dealer? Or should he have the necessary equipment? (Goodyear owned & Operated)

Yes, only the dealer can do it so be sure to get the number off the new monitor before it is installed. It is right on the outside.

A newbie question: A few weeks ago I had Triple Treads (the 195s) put on my 06 by Discount Tire. Does this mean that my tire pressure monitors are not working?

Thanks Galaxee! This makes more sense now. The shop said that they had plenty of experience with TPMs and it sounds like I would know if I had a problem.

    This is a great forum!
