I wish when i told the dealer i wanted all the tax incentives on my prime. That 2 out of the 3
rebates in my state you need preapproval. so im out 3000 bucks because i bought the car
and then read about the incentives. My bad for not doing
my due diligence. His bad because im sure he knew this but just wanted to make a quick sale.
    Your state may vary.

Indeed. If you can find a new Prime in FL, you won't get any state income tax incentives. That's because we don't have state income taxes at all. (But Tallahassee still gets plenty from us in other ways.)

It’s less a what I wish they’d told me vs a what I wish I’d noticed. When they brought out my car for me to get in and drive away, the mechanic had very dirty hands and touched my Moonstone (very light gray) headliner. There were fingerprints. Unfortunately due to the new car shortage I’d had to go to a rather distant dealership to buy my car so I just cleaned it myself.

When we were going through the car (2021 Prime) there was a tool sleeve in the slot were the charger cord is stored. It had “jack” type tools but not jack to be found. The Sales Rep. and the District Service Rep. had no idea were the jack was. They were going to order one as they thought jack was missing. Turns out, the jack is stored under the driver’s seat, rear seat. I texted our Sales Rep. the location for future buyers. Good grief…..

Wish someone told me how hard I would have to push the dealer to make them actually perform all the necessary things to make the car Certified Pre Owned.

It was a struggle at every point that I brought up, finally the boss of the dealership came out and all but told me that they didn’t price the vehicle high enough for all the repairs so they weren’t making any money and it was somehow my fault ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Most things were eventually fixed, one thing I just let go, but yeesh..

Too much too list. I wish they mentioned that...

    -It burns a little oil
-that 2004-2005 models can only hold 299,999 miles according to the internet
-that catalytic converter is a target for theft
-that the catalytic converter may go bad due to the oil burning issue
-that the gas gauge freezes in winter when trying to fill it up with gas
-that the trunk on these cars are known to leak (get a rubber mat to protect the batteries!!)
-that the LED lights from the factory may flicker on and off by themselves

A lot of these listed here are hidden problems. Sadly, you don't pick up on these issues on your test drive but once you spend quite a bit of time with it, you'll discover hidden issues one by one. Overall, I do like the car but it is overrated in reliability at the same time.

I think it might have been cool to know how much on average proportionally to the price of the car the dealer fees should have been. Makes me sick thinking how much I got screwed.

That it didn't have remote start and couldn't use android auto wirelessly. My phone has no usb port so now I need a new phone to use the android auto which is the ENTIRE reason I bought the base model instead of the tech upgrade model.

Oh and mine doesn't even have maps or apps loaded into it even though it's supposed to. Can't find the MIcro SD slot to make sure it has the map card in it. Not even sure it has a microSD card.

After noticing all the little pits marks on the front/top of the hood in my wife's 2017 Prius, and talking to a Toyota mechanic who confessed Toyota's paint jobs aren't that great, I wish I would've gotten the clear bra protection on the entire front and the rearview mirrors. (I did spend the extra money and got it on my 2021 AWD.)

Oh yes, she's a great driver. I think the majority, if not all, of the pits are from our cross-country trip to Maine and back to Colorado in 2019...hit quite a few thunderstorms and also took the car up gravel/dirt roads to the lakes while in Maine.

The rear motor in the AWD models (yours) occupies the space where the spare tire normally is. Plus, Toyota is stripping the spare out of a number of levels, just because.

The US brochures, IIRC, show spare on just base level, and all the other levels “upgrade” to the kit.

Up here, again, only the base model has a spare. Toyota Canada website muddies the water further, show ALL levels as having BOTH a spare and a kit, lol. I emailed them about this, and the response was that it’s correct…

Actually, from what I've read, dealerships don't make a lot of money from selling new cars. The big money-maker is their service department. Most buy the cheapest oil, in barrels, so that they can to help increase profit. (None of the bottled Toyota Motor Oil for you!) I wouldn't even be surprised if the dealerships didn't use Toyota radiator coolant or Toyota ATF fluid in order to save money. There's a reason we aren't allowed in the bay where they are working on cars. (Remember, many years ago, when they'd have big windows where you could actually watch what was going on in the service bays? Not anymore...the only place I've seen that still has that is Discount Tires.)
Many dealerships aren't even in the business of good diagnostics and repair....it's, often, a quick 5-minute check then listing out as many things to replace as possible at, of course, full price for labor and parts.
