    Or lack of supply?

    I'm more familiar with the stories of RAV4Prime customers waiting years for their vehicles, but from the limited time I've spend on this forum, PriusPrimes also seem to be hard to get.

    Outside of Cali, and up until Covid shortages, you had your choice off of the lots, at substantial discounts

    In the past, it was comparable to other plug ins. It ain't Model 3 numbers, but most EVs aren't at that level yet.

    I think North America and other smaller markets are getting the Prius still to support sales in Japan. Stop exporting to NA, and Toyota might have to increase prices at home.

    I can believe that they protect their domestic factories. In 2021 my g/f was shopping for a new car. I noticed all the new Corollas listed in ads had a "J" s/n, so I assumed that Toyota was keeping its Japanese factories operating with such parts as they had... and had shut down N/A production.

    So maybe Toyota IS trying to rationalize Prius (not the Prime version) with US sales. In Canada we get a rebate on foreign made plugin hybrid/electric cars... so we'll likely be a better market for the Prime, even if it does cost more.

    The export cars to other markets to get lower prices for home is why Toyota pushed the Mirai.

    I was excited to hear about the new gen Prius Prime, and I'm actually in the market for a car right now so it seemed like perfect timing. It seems like it will be impossible to buy though and it's sounding pretty hopeless after reading the forum a bit. Who is so made of money and into Priuses that they can spend $10,000 over MSRP on a mid-range model? It's a bit insane from the outside.

    Meanwhile my 2014 plug-in happily chugs along. I'd kill for TSS 3, but I guess it's a pipe dream anytime soon.

    I remember the Leaf did, and so did the Volt at times. Haven't paid attention to pricing and incentives for others.

    I don't think there were deals for Primes in the Southeast of Gulf region. The Northeast had Toyota incentives because those states didn't have generous state incentives, like California, and some of them have ZEV programs that Toyota needed credits for.

    Im right there with you and so are hundreds of thousands of other would be new car owners since covid backlogged buyers into a corner.
    Its a mess and like you we have pretty much resided ourselves to the fact our current 2016 Prius w/ 100K miles will have to hold out for this year and maybe next. If things do not improve on the Prius outlook by then I think we will jump Toyotas ship and go in a different direction IF we can find one.
    Its a shame its come to this in the auto world...we desperately need direct to consumer sales to help clear the waters of availability. Having to go through the dealership middleman is not only expensive (MSRP Markups) and they give you no clear idea when vehicles will be on the lot info but also unnecessary in 2023.

    Regardless of the reasons for discounts, Toyota has not been able to sell a significant amount of phevs over 10 years, and discontinuing hybrid Prius in n/a wont solve the problem.
    Gen5 may be the last shot, and if unsuccessful, they’ll be caught selling gassers for a long time until they can catch up on bevs

    They're selling every RAV4Prime they can build. I think the issue may have been that the Prius was just too quirky to be mainstream.

    The gen4 Prime was a good balance of price and capabilities. While many thought it was the better looking of the Prii, it was still an odd looking car. With more traditional looking PHEVs and BEVs available, that likely hurt sales. Toyota probably wouldn't have trouble selling Rav4 Primes, even if they had more supply.

    Bringing the Prius along side the PP to the North American may mean some cost savings on bringing it to market. Any sales of the Prius will help with their CAFE rating. In Europe, tariffs added 10% to the price of the Prius that would be directly cross shopped with the hatchback and wagon Corolla hybrid(in at least some countries, the hybrid is the only option).

    iagree that american buying public is much more interested in suv's, and rav4 prime should do better than prime. but price could be an issue for both vehicles

    The $5000 markup is plainly stated, so I guess that’s fair if you can afford it and want the first one on the block.

    DIOs are essentially same as market adjustments. Xzilon and vehicle theft registration?! LOL...laughably useless products.
