I went to my sons mechanic to check out his BCM, which I believe he needs a new one, but I drive a 2008 Toyota Prius as well. I drove our Prius and asked for my sons key fob from the mechanic and went outside and started his car. The dash lights came on, red triangle, check engine light, car moved back and fourth (he had a different transmission put in and the car,sat for a year.) I shut the car off to check the fluids in his inverter reservoir and put his key in my pocket. I checked the fluids everything was okay, I accidentally put my key fob in his ignition without knowing it was mine. I tried to start my sons Prius, on, off, on, off then I realized it was my key fob, I got his key fob put it in the ignition the car starts, cluster is dark, check engine light is on, will not move. Is this a coincidence or did I mess up his car? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Sounds like a coincidence. It'd be a pretty major flaw if you could kill a car by trying to start it with the wrong key :)

Can you or your mechanic pull some codes?

sounds like the hybrid battery is too weak to start the engine

Unlikely if you messed anything up beyond depleting the HV battery, this is assuming the vehicle never actually started up the engine.
How did the battery inspection go, or do you need step by step instructions (with pics) on how to access the harness and HV battery ECU?

You may have additional OBD2 codes, which scanner was used in the past? (many will use Techstream - dealer technician diagnostics app)

Ask the mechanic to scan the vehicle again, then post the OBD2 codes in one of the threads you've created for the same problem.

You may need a HV charger going forward, do you still have the prolong gear?

When was the 12v battery last replaced, or what is the measured voltage at the jump points under the hood?

For P0A0F, if not connector/harness or ECU corrosion related, try using a HV power supply or "grid charger" to recharge the HV battery.
