That's the other side of the coin - and yes "funny numbers" was used to calculate everyone's "fair-share". Unfortunately the last siphon in the river only sucks sand.

Here are some lake levels pages to watch, partially my own random selection under watch for the past year or so. The name pattern should quickly lead to any others of interest.

These two upstream lakes are filling rapidly. Both much higher than anytime last year, one already above its highest spring level of two years ago, the second nearly so:
    Lake Oroville Water Level
    Lake Shasta Water Level

This one appears to have been drawn down quickly ahead on the forecast storms, which mostly returned it to where it was:
    Folsom Lake Water Level

These downstream reservoirs are much too low, and not yet receiving anything from this storm cycle:
    Lake Mead Water Level
    Lake Powell Water Level

God, that story brings me back to 1982 again, while watching the movie Bladerunner.
In the movie Repllicants (cloned humans that were sterile and had a 5? year life span) were hunted / terminated by Harrison Ford a Bladerunner if they returned to earth and were detected. I gene research / CEO of the company in LA that manufactured the replicants solved the reproduction process and developed one replicant that could and did reproduce, coincidently with the human bladerunner. And stories of that union became legend for those seeking the secret that only one scientist held.
Than transformed into Bladerunner 2049, at least as best as I can remember it while trying not to spoil the entertainment value of the either movie...

    chicken or egg?

Death total from Turkey (renamed) and Syria earthquake cluster now 28,000. Very bad one. These were very shallow, included some populous areas, and importantly, building codes are not enforced and thus imaginary.
Major earthquake disasters within last 15 years have shared those aspects. As others have before, no doubt. We (broadly speaking) can build with more rebar, or have replays. Jeez, forever I guess.

    cultural differences east to west.
From the link chinas-26-storey-pig-skyscraper-ready-to-produce-1-million-pigs-a-year after reading the Turkey Syria earthqake post, my first thought was a new type of architecture being planned to mass produce.
due probably to how my brain works on news titles I've scanned in the last few years, which is how I now try to filter news articles.
After the first paragraph, I was remembering The Matrix movie where the machines bread humans for there heat energy (turning humans into batteries to power themselves).
The second one sentence paragraph sparked memories of Soylent Green.
    Lord, HELP ...

Mega pig tower seems ... odd. Excreta will go to methane production, which covers carbon, but I don't see how nitrogen and phosphorous will be handled. We read in media that other many-pig towers will be built, at least in Sichuan Province.

In 3 years or so we will we will have some idea whether farmed animals can go vertical. Horizontal animal farming works at large scales, sorta kinda.

I would assume the nitrogen and phosphorous would go to fertilizer. Guess it is a question of how.

Pig tower is described as a place where human workers go in for several days and cannot go out without some sort of testing

Nitrogen and phosphorous from mega pig, in one place, would require processing I've never seen anyone do anywhere. So, y'know, fun to watch.

Fungi on TV! Apparently there is a show 'The Last of Us' exploring humans going all zombie because of. Those fungi do make zombies of some insects, but more often they just eat their targets alive and emit spores without zombiefication. Now that excellent macro cameras are in many hands, we have lots of great photos.

I'd suggest to dear readers that fungi enjoying insects are not a large threat to humans because, among creatures walking on land, insects and humans are more different than any other 'victims' might be. But, I don't pitch TV shows.

Yonder Marburg and Ebola virus group is still trying to make its big showing:

WHO says Equatorial Guinea confirms 1st outbreak of Marburg - ABC News

And ya I know there was already a movie. Or maybe 3. But this is one end of disease jumping spectrum that matters. A ridiculously fatal candidate could evolve down to more effective transfer. Or OTOH, a jumper from pigs or chickens could evolve up.

    Enjoy your TV though!

Trail derail, chemical spill, burn after as best among poor choices. Is it covered appropriately by media and govt?

The Ohio Train Derailment Is a Disaster of Misinformation

The largest component was vinyl chloride, used in making many things, but mostly PVC pipe I think. This is a large event and will require substantial remediation. Not much more to add at present.

Sometimes in life we have to choose the 'least bad' option and burning was the best of the bad options. But I instantly remembered our small house fire in the mid 1960s.

The heavy duty AC outlet our heavy air conditioner plugged into, over heated and a small electrical fire and smoke came out. Our family quickly announced what they were doing and in parallel did this:
    • One went to the breaker box and shutdown that circuit.
    • Others got the younger kids outside.
    • A couple of others addressed the fire: (1) removing nearby combustables, and; (2) dousing with baking soda and water after the circuit breaker was turned off (it had not tripped.).
    • Another called the fire department who quickly arrived and made sure everything was out.
My parents filed the insurance report and coordinated repairs. So far, everything worked fine. But six months later, the residual smoke effects were discovered.

We had a rifle rack that held the unloaded shotguns and rifles on pegs. The small amount of ammunition was stored in the parents bedroom on a high shelf, away from the weapons. But the tops of every weapon mysteriously rusted. We soon realized that the highly reactive smoke had condensed on the upper surfaces of everything in the house including the barrels. Checking around the house, we found the same pattern of upper surface corrosion and/or rust ranging from lamps to other, less frequently used metal objects. This is 'smoke damage' which happens months after the immediate effects.

So I have no doubt that the community will suffer a slow but steady accumulation of smoke damage over time. Condensed smoke is chemically reactive and hydroscopic. Other than washing the upper surfaces of everything, this is their future. Sure rain will help but not everywhere.

200 pallets of plastic plant containers burn at Kissimmee nursery.
I’m glad we weren’t downwind of that.
