I'm talking the traction battery.......i tried all of that stuff.. even the high priced charger system.... waste of time unless your to poor to get a real new battery.
The cars aren't worth it..... you end up not saving any money because the repairs destroy all of the savings.... DO Not purchase a 3rd gen prius...... get a ICE car........ just putting this down in case somebody thinking about buying one.... I thought a prius would be great especially since I had 2 toys that had hundredes of thousands of miles without a blown headgasket... buring oil... brakes going out...inveter blown 1100 miles from home.

Well, this car is already purchased.

From what I see and read, I wouldn't buy a 3rd Gen Prius, especially the V.

Honestly if I want great mileage I'd MUCH rather have an old Honda.......much more "environmentally friendly" to keep an old car on the road, especially one that can get 50 mpg.

There's a plethora of threads and references to the process of manually repairing a HV pack working, even if only for a relatively short period of time.

Logically it makes sense to me, even if your opinion is that it's a waste of time, there seems to be a LOT of information to the contrary.

As I mentioned, if it were my car I would go with the lithium battery upgrade for not much more than a new NiMh pack.

I've considered retrofitting one of these drivetrains to another vehicle and if I have learned anything, it definitely won't be from a Gen 3! ;)

I used to travel.... you don't want to be several states from home and your tearing the battery pack apart to add a cell and balance the system. You don't have confidence in a old battery...I guess if you don't go anywhere and dont mind spending days with the traction battery go for the used cells...... wasn't for me..... my time has value.......
the the hatchback has the same problems as the v...... DON"T purchase a Gen 3........... unless you like

    extreme financial and mental pain....

I sold my v and now have 3 toy ICE ..... the matrix I purchased has been working great..... got it with 165,000 miles.... garaged excellent shape and super reliable...
Previa has 430,000 and still drive it for work.... just a radiator, starter and water pump and doesn't use any oil.
