So I went to Bob Bridge yesterday for my 10,000 mile service (damn car inspiring road trips ;) ). While waiting, I was looking at the Yarises because the girl was vaguely thinking about getting one a few months ago. So I was wandering the lot, looking at the cars, when I saw one that got 51 MPG highway. "Wow, what's that?"

Of course, it was a Prius. They didn't have one though. They had about 12 just sitting there in the lot. All sorts of colors and packages were available. Is that the case everywhere these days or is this dealership just becoming Priusland? Maybe lower tax break now is the cause...

Same in Augusta, Maine. The largest Toyota dealer in Maine. Eight Prii sitting on the lot and not already spoken for. My guess was also the reduced tax credit.

Same here at my local dealer in Bellevue. Last weekend we went to pick up the license plates for our 07 Barcelona Red Base, and there were three Prii sitting there, all had Package #5 and were available. The dealer markup above MSRP put them up to 31k!! We were glad we found a base model and saved thousands. We don't need all those extra gadgets like navigation and hands free phone, etc.

The last two times I was at DarCars in Frederick, Maryland there were at least 13, fully loaded Prii on the lot! We used to have a game when traveling that the kids would compete against mom and dad to find the most Prii on the road. There are so many around the DC area now that the game isn't challenging anymore!!!

Each of our Toyota dealers here in San Antonio has atleast half a dozen Priuses sitting on the lot.

Here in the Conn and New York Metro area, they seem to be available on the lots. I don't know how fast or slow they are moving. But I was told that the dealers aren't ready to budge off the markup they feel they are entitled to, especially in the NY metro area.

Yeah, I saw three on the local Toyota lot.

Of course, there are more than - something like - 50 Hummers sitting on the lot at the Hummer dealer.

Toyota Canada is offering deep discounts on 2006 Priuses. Last I heard, it was $3,000

Lithia Toyota of Vacaville this weekend ran an ad featuring Priuses at $1K under MSRP---and not limited to stock on hand.

I've posted before about Miller Toyota in Manassas, Virginia. That's where we bought our Prius - our third Toyota from Miller and from the same salesman, Mr. Hash.

Just checked their website. They still have three '06s. one '07 touring, and 50 2006 base models.

All are being offered for under MSRP, and some under invoice, and all with maintenance agreements.

2007 touring package #2 Barcelona Red
    $25,064 MSRP
    $23,317 invoice
$23,017 sales price (includes maintenance agreement)

    2007 package #4 Magnetic Gray
    $26,239 MSRP
    $24,147 invoice
$23,847 sales price (includes maintenance agreement)

Personally, I didn't - and wouldn't - go for a maintenance agreement. Instead, I'd negotiate for the value of the maintenance agreement to be taken from the sales price. With 50+ on the lot, I would think Miller would be willing to deal.

Confirming GreenGene, Internet site for Miller's Toyota has 54 Prii at or below invoice. Lustine's, Woodbridge VA site has 27 priced about MSRP. Highly recommend Mr. Hash at Miller's Toyota--fun to deal with. One reason for the glut of Prii in northern VA is that new hybrids are no longer allowed on the I95 HOV lanes during rush hours. That exemption ended 6/30/06 for new hybrids. Presently, the exemption ends for all hybrids 6/30/07. Hopefully, northern VA hybrid owners will lobby the VA state legislature to change the law to allow the hybirds to disappear from the lanes by attrition, which IMO, makes more sense.

The demand for the car has died down somewhat (there are several articles about it in the news section)... It's due mostly to lower gas prices and the decreased tax credit with the car.
