This noise Ive heard/felt on every Prius Ive ever owned

    So Ive never ever gotten to the bottom of this but on all 4 prius (gen 2) ive ever owned (and in heavily used condition they've been), there has been a very distinct "flapping" kind of sound most prominent when coasting and comes from around the brake pedal. It is cyclical in nature but not constant and can be "felt" through the brake pedal. Does anyone know what the hell im talking about ? Im off to find an example online or record my own.

    Yes and I cannot remember what it is but it has been discussed here a few times you'll find the thread about it or somebody will be along in a second to tell you the thread it's in

    I’ve had 2 gen 2 and 1 gen 3, and I’ve never heard it.
    Are these used, old, high mile cars?

    Your not talking about the brake vacuum pump are you? Does it sound like a rattle snake?

    There's no vacuum used in the Prius braking system. There is a brake fluid pump, that pumps up a very high (positive) pressure.

    It does sound kind of like a rattlesnake though. Or a joy buzzer.
