Sound coming from inverter area of the engine compartment. Diagnosed by mechanic as inverter pump. Replaced pump and sound continues. Does not seem to effect performance or give error codes. Please advise. Thanks for your consideration. Dan
What bisco said. Although it's a little different from the usual sound, I'll still go with this. Yours has, I think, the most awesome sound I have ever heard one of those make. I might download it and use it as a ringtone.
The sound is constant (as in the recording) while the car is running even when the engine shuts off. When you switch off the ignition it kind of sighs then stops. Does not have a vibration. Thanks.
To test to see if it the valve could I unplug it to see if the sound stops? Is there another way to test? Thanks

You'll have to unplug it to change it, anyway, so sure, let us know if you do and that somehow turns out not to be it. Another quick confirmation is to touch the valve with a mechanics' stethoscope, or even just a long screwdriver with the other end pressed to your ear.
I unplugged it and the sound went away. When I removed it, I opened it up to look at the gears. They seemed very worn. I think that was the correct diagnosis. Thanks so much for your help. I haven't put the new one on yet. Will report back when completed.
Changed out the three way coolant valve. Sound went away. All is good in the Prius world. Bisco is a genius! Thanks for your help.
