I think the reason I am having trouble duplicating my key is because the one I received with the used Prius is not the “master” key? It works fine, has smart entry, chrome logo.

There is no such concept in the Gen 2.

As we've tried to tell you in the many multiple posts on this subject you have posted, you need a new (as in never added to any car) silver-backed logo key fob and an existing fully functioning fob. If you have these prerequisites, you can perform the "Chicken Dance" routine to add a second key.

If you don't have a fully functioning fob, you need a person with "credentials (like a Toyota dealer or accredited auto locksmith) to add a new key using the "all keys lost" routine. This involves getting a reseed code so the new key can be added.

Thank you, this is the first I’ve actually read this I believe, but I’ll look. I have a fully functioning chrome key, and a new, never programmed replacement. The chicken dance does not work so I must be doing something wrong. I’ll look up “reseed” code, I have not heard of that.

    I apologize for over posting,

It is highly likely you're getting something wrong. Most likely going too slow or too fast.

The timing of the various steps can be critical. Pre-read the procedure and highlight any steps where it gives the timing then make sure you do the steps within the required timing.

You don't need to worry about the "reseeding" procedure as you have a working key. The reseeding procedure is for when you have lost all keys and you need to delete all existing keys and add a new one.

Thank you! I have now managed to get the new replacement key (non smart) to lock and unlock, but inserting it in the slot will not allow me to start the Prius. I’m wondering if the key slot is not working.

Turn off the SKS system (under dash button is clicked IN) then see if your good fob works in the dash slot.

I have never tried the chicken dance so I don't know if missing a step will mess up programming the immobilizer (dash slot).

Might need a Prius capable scantool to see what's going on (maybe too many keys in the immobilizer ecu?)

Thank you, I tried that and no results, perhaps the rf chip in the fob is out or the slot is out. I have Techstream and have used it but have not drilled in on the key issue. I do know that Techstream will not allow me to register a different key, I follow the process and it fails.
