brake actuator resistor

    Just received the ABS part and found the resistor included. Is the resistor really necessary for the repair, and is it as easy as working under the dash? Will try to study it some more. LOL..more than enough to do today to get ABS out of engine compartment.

    We don't normally use the new resistor, but if you want to replace it it will be much easier if you remove the dashtop. Follow this video for how to remove the dashtop.

    Thanks for the dash removal video. I had to take it apart to repair the board for the dash display and the video will be a good reminder, but not sure how I will proceed on that. At least the beastly ABS tooth has been pulled and will resume tomorrow to put in new one. The usual blood, sweat and tears..haha. I had to remove the ballast in situ to get the thing out. I also had removed the hood and used a pulley hoist which really made it a lot easier to move the inverter and pull the ABS. Drained all the old Dot 3 out of the reservoir while at it.

    How crazy that most have a hard time removing the resistor. No lie, it literally took me 5 minutes to located it and have it out with a stubby and 10mm socket which is the only thing holding it in place (plus the blue plug). Absolutely no need to remove dash. May need to enter a contest of who can pull that out the fastest and by the sounds of it, I may come out the winner lol

    Just move your seat as far back once you are under the dash and your head by the brake pedal, it will be to your 3 o'clock near the firewall on a shiny metal bracket. Try to bend your body a bit to the right and get your left hand in and move the wires gently to the side and get your hand up there and feel the 10mm and get your stubby on and a gentle force will allow you to then remove the 10mm nut by hand and remove the resistor. Dont forget to disconnect the blue plug lol

    I do however second 3prongpaul on the fact that you dont need it unless its failing when replacing the ABS accumulator. I replaced my ABS accumulator and used my existing resistor.

    Wow, that is so helpful CA!! Thanks a million. I may just yank out the front seat since only 4 bolts. Sure beats the dash removal. Been there done that..haha

    Thanks to SoCAL the resistor was a breeze. The 10 mm nut was a bit stubborn but popped. I didn't use the socket but just the 10 mm tiny wrench. At first I was trying to get wrong nut that had the other wires on it, but the pics provided by SoCAL and just observing the new part helped. Did it all with right hand and was able to get nut started gently without it popping loose. I did take off the leftmost air louver at first but it was easy enough to shine the Qbeam from underneath. WOW...sure beats taking dash apart which would be very unnecessary. Grateful o SoCAL and his forum. Brakes all like new at 165,000 miles even though rear shoes still original with 2.5 mm left. Getting a VERY firm petal after the ABS swap. No more constant rattle...life is good! Haha
