200,000 Mile Club

lol…I saw your post in the 300,000+ Mile thread. Congrats on that, I’m hoping I get there too. At this point I think the only thing that’ll stop me is that the seats are just so damn uncomfortable. The older I get, the less tolerant I get of those seats on long trips. Maybe one of my kids can do it for me.

Anyway, looking at your post, perhaps your daughter’s Prius is a testament to 5k oil changes. Neither one of our Prii burns much oil at all despite high mileage.

 

Forgot to put in there that the original owner had to replace the engine at around 200kmi. He started burning oil and didn't catch it in time. I found all the records on toyota.com. They offered him 3 different used engines. Not sure which one he chose but the one he chose still doesn't burn oi.

 

2008 Touring, package #6. Cracked the 200,000 mile barrier earlier this year.

1. HV battery pack replaced 10/2019 at 159,000 miles.
2. 12v battery has been replaced 3 times, once before we bought the car. The latest was installed 03/2023.
3. Transaxle fluid has been replaced twice I know of, most recently 03/2023.
4. Rear brakes were done 05/2022 at 191,000 miles. We're easy on brakes but that longevity was amazing!
5. Lifetime mpg is 43.48 and continues to sneak up ever since we moved out here to the desert. The car loves these flat roads with few traffic signals and 40-55 mph speed limits.
6. Know the car can go longer between oil changes but we continue to stick with the Toyota maintenance manual call for changing it every 5,000 miles. We use the Toyota dealer's 5W30 oil.
7. Sorry I don't have a picture of the odometer. I haven't transferred it from my camera to the computer yet.

Additionally, the inverter coolant pump has been replaced twice since we purchased the car in 2016, most recently 03/2023.

The plan is to have this Prius at least another 100,000 miles./ That's why we pay extra and get it dealer serviced and sometimes replace things preemptively instead of waiting for them to fail. Well, that and the desire to avoid sitting by the side of the highway in 115*F heat.

 

Glad to hear the car has made it this far! I think the only thing you would need to worry about is the brake actuator failing. My 2008 is making a lot of noises now, it's just a matter of time before that thing fails. After you replace that unit (which is very expensive $2000+), the car should not have any problems going to 300k

No noticeable noises from the brake actuator yet but we'll keep an ear out for them.

 

Does yours burn much oil? I also change oil at 5k intervals and burn very very little @270,000 miles

 

I'm adding about 1/2 a quart between 5k oil changes.

 

That’s about where I’m at. I notice that the first 3000-3500 miles after an oil change, I burn almost no oil at all. That 3500-5000 is where I begin to burn that little bit.

 

Finally hit the big 200K today while on a short road trip in my 2007.

1) Did you replace the HV battery pack?
Yes, at about 150,000 miles. My driving conditions were terrible, so I'm sure this is what killed it. An uphill, 3 mile commute everyday and not much else. In New England winters. Used Newpriusbatteries.com and it's still good as new 5 years later.

2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? twice since I bought it in 2014, coming up on a 3rd time soon.

3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid?, yes, about 6 years ago.

4) Did you replace the brake pads? Twice since 2014. Probably more than was needed.

5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? I can get 52 in good summer weather and driving conditions.

6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? 5/30 full synthetic, every 3-5,000 miles.

-Have also replaced the dash display/combo meter at about 175,000 miles. Did it myself.
BUT the body is starting to show a few rust spots and I've lost a bunch of the underbody protective panels/mud flaps whatever over the years. Cosmetically it's a mess but it's still a pretty smooth ride.[/QUOTE]

 

Hit 200K today, purchased my '05 back in August of 2022 with 187K on the ODO.

1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? Replaced once by a previous owner in 2016
2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? Yes
3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? Yes
4) Did you replace the brake pads? Yes
5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? Not available but averaging 42MPG on a tank with non-LRR tires.
6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? 5K miles, whatever 5w30 synthetic is on sale - Doesn't currently consume any oil.

Since my previous post, I've done the brake actuator assembly replacement (PITA) and fluid change, rebuilt one CV axle, trans fluid replacement, rear drums and shoes.

Next up: shock/strut and spring assemblies, MFD replacement

7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO? pics are broken but it was Driftwood Pearl with a black bumper i got at a junkyard. and black garnish i got online. actually looked kind of cool ha ha.

bought at 180k, drove 30k, cost about 5-6k total. not bad. will miss many things about it. hauled all kinds of stuff went all over the place. love the shifter, EV mode mod, replaced MFD, Combo Meter, HV bat, elec water pump, etc, actually kind of a DIY-ish car especially with these forums.

however one thing I WONT miss is im about 6' tall and when i sit up straight the window-roof line is literally below my eyeline. i had to constantly scrunch down to see when the light turned green lol. I find the Nissan Leaf is actually more comfortable seating

But it was great to have a taste of that legend. Prius is just an incredible project once you dig into the details of what they had to accomplish and how much time they had to do it, how much advanced tech was in it, and how well designed it was. Very special car.

I replaced the brakes, tires, and actuator at 140k, hybrid battery at 180k and inverter water pump, water pump, transmission fluid, ignition battery, MAF sensor, and spark plugs at 195k.

 

My 2008 has 247,000 miles still on the original HV pack. I have 2 52ah agm 12volt batteries. I've replaced 1 inverter pump and 3 coolant valves, fuel injectors and ign coils also have a very large audio system with lithium cells.

 

I crossed it a few months back. Didn't bother making a fuss.

 

Bought a Prius 1 two years ago with 289'000 km (179'576 miles). It's at 350'800 km (217'977 miles) now.
Never had to make the brakes since. I was informed that the HV battery was exchanged at 160'000km due to a general recall caused by problems with the HV batteries. The services have been done on a regular interval all in the same shop, the 12v battery has been changed several times I think.
I make the engine oil and oil filters change myself after 10'000 to 15'000 km (6200 to 9320 miles). I noticed that after ca. 6200 miles I have to refill between 0.5 to 1 liter oil. I use Castrol Edge M and a Bosch oil filter.
The hybrid transaxle oil is the next I want to change.
MGP 44.38 or 5.3 L on 100 km

5k mile intervals, full synthetic since about 80kmiles. Uses about 1qt per 2k miles now.
7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO?

I don't have it anymore. Traded it for a lower miles Prius plus money. It has 198,000+ now. No issues.
